Do Dogs watch TV?

We were watching The Calcutta Cup, when we noticed that Billy was watching it too. In case you are unaware, The Calcutta Cup is played between Scotland and England, and is the opening game of the annual 6 nations Rugby tournament.

Billy being a Border Collie, his ancestors came from the Scottish border, so no doubt he was supporting Scotland.  I'd not seen him watching TV before, not even 'One man and his Dog'.

Scotland won 20 -17. Not the result we were hoping for, but Billy went round with a smile on his face for the rest of the evening.

  1. What a fun post. Although, Billy usually has a smile on his face no matter what.

    1. He wasn't interested in Today's France/Italy game; even though he's officially French.

  2. Oh, some dogs do really watch TV... my brother's dog especially gets excited watching dog competition shows and runs off to catch things when thrown on TV. It's pretty funny! But like people, some are more interested in it than others. Billy may be a sports fan...

    1. This was the first time he'd shown any real interest. Maybe the last too!

  3. When a dog barks on TV, my dog barks too. Billy wished he was on the field chasing the ball and/or rounding up the players.

    1. We always tell him when there are Border Collies on TV, but he's never really interested.

  6. Good for Billy! Our cat used to watch the hockey games - every time the puck moved "off screen" he'd raise around to the back of the TV to see where it had gone. Never got old....

  7. We often thought our last dog watched although whether it was image or movement who knows.

  8. Friends had a dog that got engrossed in wildlife programs. Mr T watches TV from time to time.

  9. Such a sweet picture. Mine used to get excited by the Famous Grouse advert and then Minions. Other than that usually just animal noises rather than pictures.

  11. That's rather a funny photo. Whatever's going on in his head, he certainly looks like he's happily watching the game.

  12. I’ve never had a dog that watched much tv ~ only one or two, and it seemed to depend on something that I can’t identify. Maybe they know something we don’t, lol.

  13. None of my dogs ever watched TV, but I did have a cat that liked some of the catchy music commercials and would sit up to watch them, then go back to sleep.
