I'm very pleased to see recent examples of Prince Charles's 'ratting wardrobe'; a man after my own heart.
I've never been one to throw away clothes simply because of holes or shabbiness. My 1970-ish Barbour is certainly showing signs of wear and tear, but as such coats don't come cheap, I shall be hanging onto it.
It looks as if Charles thinks similarly about this rather odd looking coat of his (below).
I have noticed over the years that he often wears a well-worn, slightly 'Orangey' looking overcoat when on official visits. It still looks OK, but he must have owned it since the 60's.
Well done Charlie, a man who believes in sustainability, and hates waste; an example to us all.

I understand completely...My favorite fleece jacket has a broken zipper and thinning shoulder areas where my cats like to perch. I quite liked your "folk" art project in yesterday's post. Made me smile. Cheers, A.K.
I think my Barbour coat is my worst example. It's falling apart, but I'm not finished with it yet!
The long brown one looks like something he might have been given on a visit somewhere overseas. Lots of embroidered decoration
Yes, I can't make it out, but it looks quite exotic. Afghan maybe?
Now I feel more positive about my old and shabby Burberry Mac. It still keeps the rain out, I shall wear it with pride.

At first glance, that photo of HRH looks just like my brother, another man who doesn't believe in throwing away clothes just because of a fee holes. Neither do I! If you garden, paint and have a pet, there's not much point in trying to look immaculate!

His clothes as pictured look very practical and probably why they were bought in the first place. A King of the people in well worn but very expensive clothes and not bought at Primark.
I agree. People who live in the country, and do country things, should not wear 'catwalk' clothes.
Expensive because they are good quality, and made to last; even if they become a bit ragged.
Women celebrities have often been mocked for wearing the same clothes as before. That's wrong. They should be praised for re-wearing favourite clothes and thereby reducing the massive impact that the constant buying of new clothes has on the planet.
That need to be in style, the idea that you buy new clothes to remain stylish has never made sense to me. I wear my jeans until they are not fit to be worn anymore, then I cut them off to make shorts. I have a collection of paint spattered, tattered clothes that I keep for the dirty jobs outside. There are so many other things to spend money on, things that really do enrich a life.
Kate Middleton is often cited as wearing a dress that she wore back in 20**; as if she is being amazingly frugal. What nonsense. She should make a point of wearing the same clothes as often as possible.
See my reply to YP above. This is so silly, we should all get good use from everything we purchase, whether it be a car, a radio, or a pair of socks.
I find it hard to part with favourite clothes - they are like old friends.

Every winter that 'orange' overcoat comes out again - he has certainly had his money's worth out of it.
I noticed that the prince was alone and not accompanied by his wife. That says it all.
