It's been freezing over the whole of Europe recently; we've even had a couple of overnight temperatures of around -7 C.
So, dear 'George' (our wood fired kitchen stove) has been permanently ablaze, and pumping out heat for a couple of weeks or more.
This means that long, slow-cooked, stews, and baked potatoes, are almost permanently on the go as well as another simple winter favourite; oven roasted sausage.
I've never really understood why it should be, but oven roasted sausage tastes so completely different (and better) than pan-fried.
The above, as you can see, was consumed with the obligatory baked potatoes; plus a few straggler sprouts from Haddock's. Simple country fare, but you can't get much better.
That looks YUMMY! And simple country fare is best, I think. :)
ReplyDeletePerfect winter comfort food! I agree about roasting sausages. Definitely different - and better - than frying them. I like to cook bacon in the oven rather than the pan as well.
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks yummy. We bought a very yummy sausage on a bagette with frits on top at a market last time we were in France. We're still talking about it!
ReplyDeleteBut ..... there seems to be a lot of sausage (and potato for that matter !) there for two people but I guess your body needs lots of energy to keep warm??
I wondered if someone would remark about the quantity. We ate our fill last night, then I kept some back for a Cassoulet for tonight, and possibly for tomorrow.
DeleteYum. Simple and tasty, my kind of fare.
ReplyDeleteBlimey. I'm starving! I am cutting down on booze and food to get myself into shape again. First I get Helsie's magnificent looking high tea and now your mouthwatering sausages! I thnk I'll go and gnaw on a chicken bone...
ReplyDeleteutterly delicious....I have a friend who lives near Rodez so uber handy for cheap flights who always does what my son used to call 'round sausage' when I go visit...... am inspired to go visit very soon!!
ReplyDeleteNever thought of roasting sausage in the oven, but will give it a go. Vege always tastes sweater when roasted. Liked the round pan for it.

Is that the dogs telling us about the shaushages?....then they must be good!
ReplyDeleteShaushages!
DeleteYou can't beat a solid fuel stove for cooking. I use my Rayburn oven constantly - does things so much better.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet the rosemary adds just the right touch.
ReplyDeleteHey Cro what kind of trap did you use to catch that ?
ReplyDeleteAs good as it gets, by my accounting!
ReplyDeleteThis kind of cooking is just the best.
