Nothing changes.

Yesterday morning it was raining, so I grabbed some long trousers and my almost unused Barbour for my early wet sortie with Billy

The only pair of long trousers I have here probably haven't been worn for about five years, and I was amused to find that they came fully equipped with handkerchief and ancient shopping list. I love lists, and it was the list that amused me mostly because it could almost have been one from yesterday; my habits obviously don't change that much. The trousers went into the wash on my return from the park.

On top of the list Lady M demanded Finish Dishwasher Tabs, the rest was all mine. Chilli sauce, a couple of bags of frozen McCain Oven Chips, some Paté, and things for making Pizza; a readymade base, and some Mozzarella.

Then onto the meat dep't where I wanted strips of Belly Pork, Chorizo, and Merguez for the BBQ, and Bacon for my breakfast. It must have been Summer.

We must also have had a good crop of Raspberries at the time as it's only then when I buy Jam Sugar.

'Green Bog' refers to that stuff one squirts into the loo, and Lemon refers to unsweetened Lemon Juice which I drink diluted with my lunch.

However, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I came back with a lot more than just the above; I usually do.

  1. I don't think I have anything that hasn't been worn for five years, but I remember almost fifty years ago, I put on a jacket I hadn't worn since the previous winter and found a $50 in the pocket. Happy Days!

    1. I've put my shorts back on again, sunny again today. I was just going through the coin dep't of my 'man bag', and found over £22. Happy days!

  2. Such legible handwriting! P's is just a scribble and he uses his own form of shorthand. I can never decipher it and have to get a verbal translation before I go shopping.

    1. Lady M's handwriting is at the top, often I read it as something completely different.

  3. I recently saw an exhibition of hand written shopping lists and it was a diverse range of people by what they shopped for and ever so interesting. At times they were one or two word additions, indicating someone else was shopping for them.

    1. I guess you know where you shopped.

    2. My oldest always secretly writes 'sweets' on my shopping lists, he's been doing it for decades!

  4. Now that I am no longer mobile my carer brings my lunch and once a month I get a Tesco order - other than thatI rely on adding bits to my son's shopping list. I miss a wander especially along the deli shelves.

    1. I've just come back from a big Sainsbury's. I have no car for the moment so am relying on my son to take me at weekends.

  5. The one thing that stands out for me on your old shopping list is "frozen McCain oven chips". Oh dear my good man, were you living in Whitehawk at the time? Times must have been rough. We use a fairly new product that came on the market a few years back. It's called the potato!

    1. I don't have a deep fryer. Maybe I should invest. I tend to 'fry' my chips, it takes just a few mins. Where is this Whitehawk you speak of? In Yorkshire maybe? Here be dragons!

    2. According to my extensive research (i.e. I googled it!) Whitehawk is the most deprived, crime-ridden neighbourhood in Brighton.

    3. We don't even acknowledge its existence.

    4. Just use any pan wide and deep enough the hot oil won't boil over when you put the chip cut potatoes in.

    1. The sad bit is that they're always very similar, 10 years ago or today.

  7. The shorts I put on this morning, after reading about your list, had 3 shopping lists from last week in the pocket. About time I washed the shorts.
The lists were nowhere near as exotic as yours though. Yoghurt, eggs and bread being the basics.
Don't need Finish dishwasher tabs. Found a big economy bag of those last month which will hopefully last another month

    1. I like finding old lists, they remind me of how fixed in my ways I am.

  8. Cro, I think we're all pretty 'fixed' in our ways. I noticed this when my brother passed and I was going through his papers. He kept his old grocery receipts and they were almost always identical from week to week. Since then I've noticed ours are too. We are 'creatures of habit.'

    1. I like to think of myself as an 'adventurous' shopper/eater, but I'm not.

  10. I really ought to start making lists.

    1. I'm rather a fanatical list maker. My next list starts when I get back from having bought all the last lot, usually because I've forgotten something that was clearly written.

  11. It's a while since I ate a Merguez. Such happy times in the Poitou Charante.
