What a stupid, irrational, and pointless waste of life. To assassinate someone one admires, must be the most inane idiocy imaginable. Mark Chapman (his assassin) is confined to his prison; John Lennon is, tragically, confined to history.I post the picture above because Lady Magnon and I were married in Gibraltar just after John and Yoko. The registrar said Yoko 'looked like a little rat'; but I probably shouldn't repeat that.

I don't think I ever really understood what the connection was between Catcher in the Rye and Chapman shooting Lennon (other than Chapman saying the book was his statement). But perhaps you never really can understand this kind of thing.
I don't think Chapman really understood either. It seems to have been no more than a crutch on which to base his bizarre reasoning.

Cro - so true! I read somewhere that the reason John Lennon was assassinated was because he was an easy target. Like you say, what a pointless waste of life!
