Yet another card-sales opportunity hits the calendar. Today, here in France, it's 'Grandmothers Day'.
Oh how bored I am with all these special 'days'. It won't be long before the whole calendar is filled with them, and specialist High Street shops will feature a new card every morning. There'll be Teddy bear Day, Over 6 footer's Day, and why not Amputee Day. The possibilities are endless, and no doubt some geek is sitting down in his bedroom somewhere, at this very moment, looking for the next big thing.
I don't know about you, but I could do without all this rubbish.
Happy Grandma's Day! I suppose I'd better take Grumsy (Lady Magnon) some tea in bed.... or I'll never hear the end of it.
I note there's no Grandfather's Day..... now, where's that geek?

What? No Grandfathers' Day? Outrageous!
ReplyDeleteI'll make my own.... It'll run from Jan 1st to Dec 31st.
DeleteOver Six Footers Day and Amputee Day rarely occur at the same time, in the Gregorian calendar.
ReplyDeleteStilts?
DeleteTotally agree, I've even seen cards for a dog / cat / rabbit birthday.
ReplyDeleteHear, hear!
ReplyDeleteI rarely do cards.
ReplyDeleteMuch better to give every friend a call for the greeting is more sincere.
Happy Frog Spawn Day!
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the new range of "Happy Weekday" cards by Hallmark? Fabulous! Only £9.95 each too.
Funnily enough, I was looking for a Happy Weekend card, but they'd sold out. Weekends are probably more popular.
DeleteA few years back, I remember the card manufacturers invented a "Maiden Aunts day". I don't think it ever took off!
ReplyDeleteWould they really want to be reminded?
DeleteIt was National Cupcake Day on Feb 25th....
ReplyDeleteWe have grandparents day here...I doubt anyone ever remembers it. I've certainly never been remembered.
ReplyDeleteHappy You've Lived to see Another Day card. Just don't send it second class.
ReplyDeleteLLx
Did you know that this coming week is National Pie Week? Something useful, at least, though it ought to run concurrently with National Chip Week and National Bitter Week...
ReplyDeleteWell, I rather like the sound of Pie Week. Do let me know if Pork Scratching Week is in there somewhere.
DeleteWouldn't regular old Mother's Day and Father's Day work for grandparents, too?
ReplyDeleteDon't be ridiculous Jennifer. That's far too logical!!
DeleteHAPPY 18th Comment on your Blog Day!
ReplyDeleteYour so kind. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteSeptember...maybe France hasn't caught on yet....
That says September 2010. Hasn't there been one since?
DeleteThe USA has Grandparents' Day. This year it's September 8th I just looked it up -- just for you -- unfortunately, it's not just for grandfathers. But beggars can't be choosers ;-) So here's wishing you a Joyeux Jour de Grand-mere!
