Anyone who remembers 'Crossroads' (above) will remember the shaky sets, the wooden acting, and the ridiculous story lines. It was a disaster from beginning to end, but people loved it for just that.
The modern equivalent must be 'Doctors', a BBC TV early afternoon show with second rate actors, and very silly stories.
The good thing about 'Doctors' is that the GP surgery, where it all takes place, is permanently without patients. It must be the only medical centre in the UK that is without sick people.
The programme comes on just after the One-O-Clock news, so groans can be heard throughout the UK as the clock hits one minute past TWO. "Oh no, it's Doctors". Everyone turns off.
It was for this reason that I watched an episode recently, and, yes, it is as dreadful as one might imagine.
There were squabbling doctors, a couple of bizarre receptionists, and a male nurse. There's a daily story, and never an explanation why the only waiting patient is never seen by a doctor.
If only all GP's surgeries were thus.
Verdict: 2/10
It sounds much the same as our Health Centre. It's always empty. I can't comment on the doctors as I've never seen one, they call appointments having a few minutes chat on the phone every few months.
ReplyDeleteI have one of those calls tomorrow, plus a visit to the Diabetic nurse this morning.
DeleteYou're a bit late in watching it as it's been on for 24 years and has been dreadful right from the start!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is, thank goodness I haven't been watching it for 24 years. Once was enough.
DeleteSounds excellent. BBC at its finest.
ReplyDeleteYeah, like, WOW!
