The Mitford Gals.

If you have lots of daughters, just think yourself lucky that you didn't have this bunch.

The Mitford sisters were born into an aristocratic family, their father being the 2nd Baron Redesdale. I'm not sure what influences fashioned their lives, but they certainly didn't behave as expected from their ilk.

Diana was a Fascist. She was wife No 2 of the infamous Oswald Mosley.

Unity was famous for being a great supporter and friend of Hitler.

Nancy was a novelist. I do remember reading 'Noblesse Oblige' when I was at school.

Deborah was always known as The Duchess.

Pamela was 'An Unobtrusive Poultry Connoisseur'. It was claimed that after her divorce from Derek Jackson she became a 'shirt-n-tie-job'.

And Jessica was a Communist and 'singer'. Here is Jessica singing the Beatles song Maxwell's Silver Hammer. A fine rendition.

In the above photo Jessica is the one on the extreme left, and Deborah is the one missing.

Deborah Mitford became the Duchess of Devonshire. She lived at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire most of her adult life and played a big part in running The Chatsworth Estate. She died in 2014. Her son Peregrine is now the 12th Duke of Devonshire.

I feel sorry for their father.

Hence her moniker of 'The Duchess'.

I thought Deborah was dead but I wasn't positive. Chatsworth House is a very nice estate.

They are a fascinating family. Was it Jessica who exposed the American funeral industry? But to little avail. It is still bad as I understand.

There is a very interesting short interview wtih Diana Mosley available on tv. Worth listening to about her meeting with Hitler and Unity's later friendship with him. I watched it on Iplayer a while back but it is also on You Tube.

I'll have a look, thanks.

I really don't know about that. I think the funeral industry should be questioned EVERYWHERE.

Every family has one black sheep, but this family got a house full. Is this called, living life to the fullest?

She might have been better advised not to record that.

Is that really a female voice? it's awful. Almost as bad as me trying to sing.

They were a dreadful bunch, but they had their merits.

She must have been influenced by Foster Jenkins!

I wonder if she ever listened to it herself?
