Leigh Bowery (1961-94) at Harrods

I'd always thought that Leigh Bowery was English (he sounds English) but in fact he was born in Melbourne Oz.

He moved to London as a student, and soon established his famous performance art and club scene.

Just in case Bowery has passed you by, here he is at Harrods, in some of his iconic outfits.

He certainly made his mark - crossing boundaries. He died at the tender age of 33 from an HIV-related condition. R.I.P..

He lived life to the full, and sadly paid the price.

That spoilt my breakfast. Not to worry. Is he one of those homosexualists?

I know that he married his friend Nicola Bateman not long before he died, but otherwise he was an outwardly gay man.

Whenever I see men like this I am immediately thankful that there are now drugs to enable gay men to live with HIV. Love the gloves.

Yes, a lot has changed since those early days.

He lived life as he wanted and to the fullest. Not everyone can say this.

He was a great character, and very softly spoken. I would have liked him!

The outfits are amazing! I wonder how long it takes to make them? So sad that he died so young.
