The Sunflowers have now mostly been harvested, leaving fields of unruly stubble in their wake. I expect these will be turned brown-side-up before too long.
Elsewhere the Chestnut plantations are being mowed, ready for the major harvest of the year. The gathering of Chestnuts is hard work and lengthy. The primitive machines that now do much of the work will be receiving their annual dose of WD40 and a quick wipe with a damp rag, and the anti-Wild Boar electric fences are all in place.
The Chasseurs will be cleaning their guns, filling-up the petrol tanks of their Renault Express cars, and making sure their camouflaged jackets still fit. There has not been nearly enough rain for Cèpes, but we may find a few Parasols on our walks.
I love September. It is still warm, the sun shines, and there is expectation in the air.
Anyone thinking of coming on holiday here should certainly chose the first two weeks of September.

Yes, September, it is mostly glorious and the name of my youngest granddaughter! October here in Illinois is even better as the leaves go bright with flashy color. Here's to Fall!
It's all sounds marvellous. The boar fences must be extra strength. I can imagine how much they would love the chestnuts.

As one side of the earth cools down the other warms up - wonderful spring days here.
Yes, October looks nice here too, but it does get cooler. September is still pleasantly warm, and outdoor living continues.
A few volts up their snouts, and they soon learn! I was told yesterday that there's a gang of about 20 roaming around.
As long as it doesn't cool down too much.

The first rain was here at night, now it is warm as usual, until October, and there is a promise in the air like you said.
We had some overnight rain a couple of days ago, but not enough to do any good. VERY dry here.
How are the Chestnuts .... I remember that there was a problem with the trees ? XXXX
September suits me as well, this Summer was hell for me, far too hot.

A very poignant September for us this year. It all seems so perfect right now.
I think they're winning the battle. I was talking to a neighbour, who has huge plantations, and he was very optimistic.
I like the heat, but not when it's oppressive. We had nothing over about 35 C.
You're going to miss it. Our barn is empty most of the time, you could always stay there!
Freshly cooked parasols please my taste buds no end. But one has to be careful for there is a poisonous impostor who resembles the parasol at a casual glance and that really would be the end.
I like September and the leaves changing colour.
I've been eating them for decades; no problems as yet. I've always thought of them as one mushroom you could never mistake for any other!

Today was our first cool morning in ages. Still shorts and swimming weather though.
Our pool was going a bit green, so I've just put a load of anti-algae stuff in it. I don't think we'll be swimming today, even though the weather is good.
Cro the temperature here today is a maximum of fifteen and it has been intermittent rain all day - very wintry I would say.
Still very warm here; around the 30 C mark. It still feels like summer.
