Don't laugh, Cro - or do. My first thought was Marc Chagall. Then I googled and nearly fell off my chair despite ... Can't say more without spoiling it for your other readers.
Is it by Bobby Baxter aged 7, and his sister Lucy (3)? When Mummy saw what they had done on the bedroom wall she let out a screech of horror, "Just wait till your father sees what you have done Bobby!"
Until Tasker's clue above I had absolutely no idea that he was a painter. When I was a young man I'd admired him greatly as a trumpeter. I can't say the same about his painting but then his style is. not one I understand.
He was one of the greatest jazz trumpeters. I bought my first MD album (Porgy and Bess) when I was still at school. I think I still have it somewhere; but no record player!
The reason I thought I knew was because a couple of years ago I started to plan some blog posts about old vinyl I still have, and read up about MD. And the fact that when I looked, CRO's file is named MD.

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
Because I've known for several years how to find out the source of the image, I didn't hold back and therefore I won't reveal.
ReplyDeleteBut did you find it a surprise?
DeleteWell, it looks like Kandinsky, but you say it's a surprise, so I'm guessing it's not.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest that some may think of Kandinsky, but decided not to mention any names at all. It's NOT by him.
DeleteI cheated as I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteNaughty!
DeleteThis is a guess.
ReplyDeleteAdrian Mole age 13 3/4. Painted when he was four.
Close.

ReplyDeleteU
I do see what you mean.
DeleteLooks like one of yours.
ReplyDeleteCould almost have been, but I wouldn't admit to it.
DeleteIs it by Bobby Baxter aged 7, and his sister Lucy (3)? When Mummy saw what they had done on the bedroom wall she let out a screech of horror, "Just wait till your father sees what you have done Bobby!"
ReplyDeleteIt was more likely to have been done by their father, but I'm afraid not. I know you know who is the real culprit.
DeleteA demented six year old with a new set of felt tip pens?
ReplyDeleteThe 'demented' bit is close, but he or she was much older.
DeleteI really don't know, but I do see a nice dog in the painting.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot going on in there, not all of which is translatable.
DeleteWhat is this? University Challenge? I never shout out the answers, but I sometimes get them in a silent way.
ReplyDeleteIf you know the answer, then remain silent. If not I shall reveal all later.
Delete"In A Silent Way"
DeleteYou're giving too many clues!!!
DeleteImpressionist, mid-20th century, could be Picasso, but probably not. Now I will click here and there and see how close I am.
ReplyDeleteYou may be surprised.
DeleteI was, later than I thought, an artist in many media.
DeleteI didn't cheat and I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteI await the reveal and read the comments
I shall reveal all in the morning.
DeleteBlind stag territory.
ReplyDeleteGood, I didn't want it to be easy.
DeleteNo clue. Not my taste in art.
ReplyDeleteWatch this space!
DeleteI think you should warn people that it is going to be an anti-climax.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about that. Shock, yes; but not disappointment.
DeleteYour response to Tasker made me go back and think. Ha.
ReplyDeleteShhhh.
DeleteKing Charles
ReplyDeleteA King in his own right, but not Charles.
DeleteYes Charles
ReplyDeleteSee above.
DeleteNot a clue, but probably not Picasso.
ReplyDeleteNot Picasso; you're right there!
DeleteAs I'm sure many of you know, it is by MILES DAVIS; superb trumpeter, mediocre painter, and terrible husband.
ReplyDeleteUntil Tasker's clue above I had absolutely no idea that he was a painter. When I was a young man I'd admired him greatly as a trumpeter. I can't say the same about his painting but then his style is. not one I understand.
