Billy and Marley.

First it was Bok and Marley; they were great buddies, and played together for hours.

Now it's Billy and Marley; again great buddies, although Marley tends to treat Billy as a rather inferior, young whipper-snapper.

We love having Marley around, he's a really lovely dog, and the children adore him too. Sadly I think he'll have to be a little bit careful when he visits, as Lady Magnon recently witnessed some nasty man, who lives nearby, chucking stones at him (and possibly at Billy too). As Kant so rightly observed "You can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals".

There's no excuse to throw stones at such a lovely dog as Marley, all he wants is to be friendly; whether that be with other dogs or humans.

  1. They look happy together. Not good about some idiot throwing stones.

    1. Billy has recently found another friend. 'Ami' is another German Shepherd, who has recently moved in nearby, and she now visits us quite regularly. Yet again, another lovely dog.

  3. Brave man throwing stones at a dog. Wonder if he'd be so brave if the dog could throw them back?

    1. It's the best way to make a dog turn nasty; especially a big strong boy like Marley.

  4. Marley is beautiful. GSDs are a rare sight these days. Always been my favourite looking breed. A " proper" dog!!
(Billy is gorgeous too of course.)

    1. Funnily there are lots around us. We have a neighbour who breeds them, and I think people still think of them as very good guard dogs.

  5. Hopefully Marley will teach Billy all he knows. A little light hero worship is the order of the day.

    1. Yes, he's learning a lot from him. Marly plays a 'teacher' very well.

  6. Kant was quite correct. Men who mistreat animals are in some manner, inadequate. Am I allowed to use the big word gambolling? I love watching dogs gambolling.

    1. 'inadequate' is a good word for this person. He is disliked, and as a result lives in permanent conflict with the world.

  7. "Marley tends to treat Billy as a rather inferior, young whipper-snapper." That's because Billy is a young whipper-snapper (though not, of course, inferior). People never cease to disappoint and annoy me.

    1. Our local dogs are like one big family. They all visit each other to say hello.

  9. Like humans, most pets need a companion like them. How nice that Billy has Marley.

What kind of person would throw stones at a dog? He must be a cruel, miserable sort who lives his life alone. Pox on him.

    1. I think he's very happy that he has two friends who now visit; both German Shepherds, and both much bigger than him.

  10. Stone thrower is lucky that no one's retaliated. It is possible that recent local history would explain why the man does it … such violence is often handed on through generations in families.

  12. Yes you can judge a person as to how they treat animals.

  13. What lovely dogs they both are and how sad that a stupid person feels the need to throw stones at them. If the dogs were to retaliate I can't imagine the consequences but he would have deserved what ever came his way. My friend was in our local park the other day as a so called man was battering a swan she tried to intervene only for him to tell her she would get the same. I love animals and would stand up for them every time. Hugs to Billy and Marley x

    1. It's a strange fact that certain people, even if they own a dog themselves, are not really dog lovers. Last year we had a neighbour threaten to kill our last dog (Bok) simply because he went into their field to say hello to their dog. There are some very odd people around.

    1. I fear he may soon be moving away. I hear that his owners are selling their home. We'll miss him if he goes.
