Regular visitors to this page will know that I am slightly obsessed with 'breakfast'. It is the one 'meal' I always eat alone, and therefore I only have myself to please.
No Croissants, Apricot Jam, and Coffee for me; I'm more of a meat (or tinned fish) person. For the past few days I've got-up (5 am), put the kettle on, looked in the fridge, and decided on a charcuterie breakfast.
It could have been any one of dozens of different breakfasts, but when it comes down to my final choice, in France it has to be Ham and sliced Sausage (I leave the Croissants to Lady M).
The Ham must be of the Bayonne variety; the type I used to make myself many years ago. And it has to be eaten with bread and Butter. I remember a lovely old neighbour telling me years ago that there were only TWO things that should always be eaten with Butter; Ham and Radishes. Both are certainly improved by its addition.
After our first few days back here, I bought myself some bacon (bacon and eggs are my other favourite), but the bacon didn't seem to have the same taste as last year so it was thrown out. I've also had a few fried eggs, and they've been wonderful. So much better than the ones I buy in England; although I am missing my Worcestershire Sauce, for some reason there isn't any on sale this year.
Hopefully Kimbo will be bringing some L & P's with him when he arrives later today.

I still enjoy L & P Worcestershire sauce on my eggs.
Oh Yes ! I am using a Japanese Worcestershire Sauce now it is fine but not as good as L & P.
My supermarket hasn't stocked it this year, so Kimbo's bringing some for me (I hope). Leclerc usually has quite a good 'English Foods' section, but occasionally certain things I rely on aren't there.
I've had the Heinz version, and Sainsbury's own brand, but you can't beat L & P's.
It's a bit like mayonnaise which HAS to be helmans or baked beans which HAVE to be heinz
I totally agree, L&P, Helmans and Heinz. Can't beat them.
I like this breakfast. It's what I could eat everyday, especially if I had your French charcuterie. I had ham, Greek cheese, lots of butter, marmite piled onto a crunchy Greek 'toast'.
I'm sure you get superior butter too. That makes a difference
It looks good, but I try to avoid processed meat most of the time. Your breakfast would be a special treat for me - with or without the L&P!
Always best to go with the brand leaders; they seem to know what they're doing!
Absolutely.
French Butter always used to have a very specific flavour, but doesn't any more. These days it tastes like Butter from anywhere; I wonder what happened?
Propper Bayonne Ham is cured just with salt and a little pepper, then hung to dry. There shouldn't be anything nasty in it.
Let me allow you into a culinary secret. Far better than L & P's is "Henderson's Relish". Not widely available in supermarkets outside South Yorkshire, it enhances so many meals and best of all - no anchovies are murdered to produce it. I hope that Kimbo and his missus have a lovely break at Chateau Magnon.
If you type 'Not a Duck' into the little white search strip (top left) you will see my review of Henderson's. Kimbo and Susie have just arrived.
What...no muesli??
Ah, the Kimbo family, more love in the building, always room for more love.
I have unopened bags of Sugar-free Muesli and Rolled-Oats, that are awaiting my attention. I do like them very much, but if I see some meat in the fridge.......
AND, he brought some L & P's. Lovely to have them with us.
I've never tried Worcestershire Sauce n my eggs! But I will be trying it tomorrow morning!
hugs
Donna
To me it is essential. The only reason I haven't been having a fried egg for my breakfast is because I had no L & P's.
Looks delicious.
It's also a very leisurely breakfast; I take my time.
I always have a big bottle of L&P Worcestershire in my fridge but I've never thought of putting it on eggs. My husband likes a few drops of chipotle hot sauce on eggs, but I'm not a fan of that.
In the UK it's used to flavour fried bacon and eggs for breakfast, but it has plenty of other uses too. Lovely stuff.
Yes! to L&P Worcestershire! We use it in so many things... including hamburgers and shepherds pie. Haven't tried it on eggs, but will now.
And didn't know about that little 'search' area on the top left. Thank you. I checked out your comparison there... although I'd never heard of Hendersons.
A good breakfast starts the day off well. If I have brunch (11-noon or 1 PM) it is likely to include meat, eggs and bread. Early morning breakfast usually carries no meat.
Most supermarkets are now selling the Heinz version... and, as Heinz bought out L&P a good while back and now make all the Worst-Ester-Shire Sorces, all you are doing now is paying extra for an embossed bottle!!
I'd never heard of it before. YP says it's wonderful, but I found it slightly lacking.
I like the idea of 'brunch'. It does away with both breakfast and lunch, and heralds the idea of supper. Can't be bad.
I must admit that I do mostly buy the Heinz version, simply because it's half the price.
