More space needed.

We've had several minor mishaps this summer, one of which was having Rory (our ride-on mower) throwing off his drive belt.

We can't risk being without a mower, we have plenty to mow, and different grass areas require different mowers.

We have an ordinary motor-mower for the lawn in front of the house, and (now) 2 ride-ons for the other areas.

Rory had started to show his age and had been complaining by throwing off his main drive belt. He's now had a total service, and is back to A1 condition, but we thought it time to find him a younger brother.

So here is 'The Red One' (as yet unnamed) who we hope will cope with the job. He has a big rear bag for collecting all the cuttings; Rory just chucks it out at the side.

They seem to be getting on OK. Only time will tell.

    1. I hadn't thought of that; it could be our new Summer sport.

  2. I have always wanted a ride on mower but my grass yard is very tiny. Just enough for a little square black dog.

    cheers, parsnip and badger

    1. I mow the 'lawn' in front of the house with an ordinary petrol mower. It goes too fast, but gets around tiny corners well. The ride-ons would be useless.

  3. A bright and shiny new toy!
    Looks like fun

  6. We have a red pullstart plod behind mower that is getting harder to pullstart. We have also an electric battery powered thing that has been takeing the tall weedy whiskers off during the hot dry spell. I wish we had a gardener to use them.

    1. Our lawns are a total mess; just patches of beige scrub. WE had a little rain this morning, but I'm not expecting it do much good.

    2. Must have fallen on us on the way to you this am. Water butt overflowing!

  7. Now that is a very pretty machine. May you two have many blissful hours together.

We have two good mowers, one riding, another push, taking up room and not being used in years because my Retired Man retired. My daughter told me she wanted them in 2016 but so far, no attempt has been made to take them. Meanwhile, they clutter our garage and a series of mowing companies tear up up our once perfect lawn for too much money.

    1. Gardeners who just go around mowing lawns tend to be very expensive, and usually know very little about gardening!

  8. They seem to be growing close. I'm sure Rory does not want his years of expertise squandered.

  9. A red mower with a big butt - there's a name in there somewhere!

  10. I cut my lawn and my daughter's. Some days I'd like a ride on lawn mower. Nice ride.

    1. Our actual lawn is too bumpy, and has too many trees, for the ride-on. They are great for our paddock, orchard, areas.

    1. And I've now got 'Rossi' stuck in my mind. I think Ralph has come too late. I blame Maria.

  12. Yes, I think he is a bit of a Ralph too.

    1. It would have been good Rory and Ralph, but I'm sticking with Rory and Rossi; sorry.
