More on Moules.

This is a shot of the Moules/Frites 'restaurant' that I failed to show you previously, just so you can see what I was talking about.

Wooden shacks, plastic tables, plastic chairs, and plastic plates; but wonderful Moules (more than we could eat), a perfect lakeside location, excellent waiters, and a very pleasant atmosphere. All in all, a very relaxing evening.

I'm not good at estimating numbers, but there must have been about 300 people there on Friday night, including several friends.

Kellogg, Boo Boo, and Wills are in the foreground of the top photo.

Leftovers were plentiful.

  1. What I like is that all the tables have more than a couple of people sitting around them - a perfect relaxed atmosphere to get together with family or friends.
Boo Boo seems a little shy in a crowd.
    Greetings Maria x

    1. He was getting tired, which is why we left reasonably early. Yes, it really makes a lovely evening. To make things even better, with aperitifs and wine the whole lot cost me peanuts.

  2. My 4 year old granddaughter would like that place, although she would not approve of the chips. Her 8 year old brother would eat the chips, perhaps. Chalk and cheese.
Boo Boo has already reached the stage of looking almost half the size of his mother. I am getting old, time is whizzing by at a rate of knots.

    1. He's starting to talk coherently, and we're teaching him to swim. When he returns next year (they spend the winter in Oz) he'll also have a tiny brother or sister. Can't wait.

  3. Some of those will be on the menu for us no doubt over the next few weeks. Yum! We just disembarked from the ferry last night. Would be good to find somewhere to eat with a similar atmosphere. x

    1. If you're staying up in Normandy/Brittany, you won't go short of Moules/Frites. Straight from the beach to the restaurant.

  5. What I would give for a plate of those moules - I adore them - and they would be so fresh. Lucky you.

    1. And I wish I could make my own cooked Mussels taste as good. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

  6. What people are they? French? Locals? There looks to be a lot of sort of, well, oldies.

    1. I think a lot of them are tourists; lots probably Brits. All the younger locals are either behind the bike sheds or at some 'disco'.

    1. I don't think it's a young person's idea of fun. Better that they DO go fishing.

  10. The relaxed, friendly atmosphere and delicious food with reasonable prices certainly make this a place folks would wish to return to time and again.

It's grand that the owners have kept the original concept pure.

Oh, before I forget, I did prepare a chicken curry last night using ingredients similar to yours. And with a cool beer, it was perfect on an evening with a heat-humidity index just above 100. I have enough leftover for supper tonight when the h-h might reach 110. Wowee. While it's still just 90 this morning, I will be going over to the local farmers market to get some okra to add to the curry.

Thank you again for the idea.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I owe the simple recipe to Rick Stein. I use an awful lot of Garam Masala; I love that earthy flavour.

The al fresco 'restaurant' looks rather chaotic, but in fact it's very well run. It just goes to prove that you don't need a fancy location or premises to run a successful eatery.

  11. Looks marvellous - I love moules frites evenings. Hot at the mo isn't it?

  12. I keep throwing myself in the pool, but even that's at 29 C. Luckily our old stone house keeps reasonably cool inside (downstairs).
