Blue Cheese.

The world of Blue Cheese is littered with blind-alleys. Invariably when I try a new one I am disappointed. People who've tasted 'Danish Blue' or 'Bleu d'Auvergne' will know what I mean; they look OK, but taste insipid.

So we stick to our old faithfuls, 'Societé' Roquefort, St Agur, and now this very good Bleu de Laqueuille; which we have only recently discovered.

Bleu de Laqueuille comes from the Puy de Dome in the Auvergne; right in the middle of France. It's full flavoured and creamy; perfect accompanied by Nairn's or Walker's Highland Oat Biscuits.

The production of this cheese is very small, so goodness knows if it's available outside of France, but if so, it's safe to buy and safe to eat.

I hope it all works out OK.

St Agur on water biscuits.....this is my 'I'll just have one' that turns in to 'oh dear I must diet' favourite snack.

St Agur is a fabulous cheese, and so much more reliable than Roquefort; the fact that it is an 'industrially' made cheese doesn't worry me either.

Looks delicious....I love cheese and have only been to France once but enjoyed most of the cheeses we tried. We have a beautiful goats cheese from the Yarra Valley in Australia....we do some pretty good cheese here.

I've only had Aussie Cheddar, which was excellent.

That cheese looks delicious. I love blue cheese.

Australian Cheddar was my favourite cheese and is unobtainable in the UK now and is one of the main reasons I gave up cheese. I don't mind a Shropshire Blue from time to time though.

Saint Agur for me too. Thankfully it's very widely available even up here.

While I love cheese, I'm not fond of blue cheese (yes I know that makes me a Philistine) White Stilton is pretty good.
I see your lovely knife is making an appearance. x

Chacun son gout.

Yes, the knife makes its return.

And it is rather cheap! :-)

Back when I could eat dairy, blue cheese was my all time favourite.

It's not excessively expensive. But I never really mind what I pay for good quality.

I've just had some for lunch.... gorgeous.

Oh you are making your shopping in Montrayal ! I spent many vacations in the Lot and Garonne and the Bleu d'Auvergne with some walnutbread is just yummy.

My stomach grumbles in response....

Blue Stilton is quite good too Cro.

Incidentally, I did your spaghetti carbonara yesterday for lunch and the farmer actually praised it - he rarely says anything.

You certainly eat well. I love a blue cheese dressing on salad.

As much as Stilton, Stinking Bishop and the like are very delicious, you can't beat a bit of St Agur …. I LOVE it and it's SO creamy…… unfortunately, I've none in the fridge !! XXXX

Gosh; that sounds like a convert.

Cro Magnon said...

Nor have I; but I've still a tiny bit of the above.
