The Very Best Sign Of Spring.
The sky was as blue as it's possible to be, and the mid-day temperature was just above 20C. Then voila, just as we settled down to eat our lunch outdoors, there they were; right on cue.
For me the most evocative sign of oncoming Spring is the return of the Cranes. We waved them goodbye in Autumn, and we welcome them home again in Spring.
I apologise for my rotten video, but they really are very high up. It's possibly better to watch on YouTube.
I can only just see them but can hear them and I agree it would be the most marvellous and uplifting sight. I read in the Times today that the sandmartins are coming back - maybe the first signs here too - and our yellowhammers are at the bird table again. Spring pushes on whether the weather says it can or not.
THE BELLS ..... THE BELLS ..........

the lovely things about where our house is, is that it's a stones throw

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
Spectacular! What a wonderful sight.
ReplyDeleteIt's surprisingly emotional.
DeleteThat wonderful thing that we call nature.
ReplyDeleteMust be a sign for us to load the car and head south. (The dining room has already been taken over by chitting potatoes...)
ReplyDeleteCasually he says the temperature was 20C - what, already! The cranes must be a fabulous sight - I have only seen them in captivity.
ReplyDelete18C today..... nothing lasts!
DeleteThey set off on the Full Moon probably.
ReplyDeleteA lovely sight. As regular as clockwork?
ReplyDeletePretty much.
DeleteWell it was a nice blue sky anyway.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could HEAR them, if not SEE them?
DeleteWow...that's a big flock.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful sight. I understand the emotion.
