There are two major worries in the making of Bramble (Blackberry) Jelly. Firstly will the hedge-trimming guys have been by and destroyed all our Blackberries, and secondly (if they haven't) will the resulting jelly actually SET.
Well, amazingly we still have overgrown hedges, and they are still filled with fruit, and luckily for me (it's still a hit-n-miss process) my two jar minuscule production SET PERFECTLY (see lower picture).
Our only problem is that we haven't enough. Most of the perfect fruit has been frozen for essential winter 'blackberry and apple' crumbles. These two jars will hardly see us into next week, so more expeditions are in order.
Anyone who has not made their own Bramble Jelly is missing a real treat. Shop bought jelly can be good, but for that real intense flavour, you have to make your own. It's a fiddly process, but well worth the effort.
Please note the use of a spoon for the jelly; I can't stand finding small blobs of butter in jams, marmite, etc.

Bramble jelly is next on this list - it has to be jelly I can't stand all the seeds in jam.

My grandmother used to make both bramble and crab apple jelly. I'm hard pressed to say which I prefer, but the photo of your endeavours certainly has my mouth watering this morning, Cro!

I have many childhood memories of being at the beach house with my great uncle picking blackberries by the bucket full. We had purple finger tips for weeks. Happy picking!
I was always too lazy for jelly and went straight to jam. If you mix a bit of apple in, you get enough pectin. It does change the taste a bit, but the consistency is a bit more guaranteed.
I used to make all manner of jams and jellies but as we don't eat much between the two of us I no longer do.
Bramble jelly, I recall was a bit of a fiddle, hanging the jelly bag overnight between a stool's legs but worth the effort as you say.

I am redundant, mentioning the slab of butter. It's the best way, melting into the toasted slab of bread, then sort of chunking the spoon of jam about. My doctor says Butter!!!??? and I say deal with it.
Unfortunately we do not have the blackberry bushes like we used to here,you have to go way into the bush for them as they are classes as a noxious weed by the farmers and poisoned.We used to travel up the mountain to get them when the children were small but when they left home somehow we did not go anymore, maybe we will one day again,in the meantime hats off to you for your yummy jam..Back to a comment you left me about a pudding going off...did you put rum in it?and they do freeze beautifully..if you want another go I am happy to share Mums pudding recipe.

Yum. I don't even know of anywhere around here where blackberries grow any more, so it's a long time since I've gone picking. I always used them to make blackberry cobbler, though. Really good with vanilla ice cream.
My (English) mother was always on about brambles! :) When we lived in British COlumbia, there were blackberries everywhere, but here they aren't so common. Nonetheless, I planted some canes in my garden this year, so we'll see how they do, and whether I too can one day make bramble jelly! Yours looks divine.
We have wild black raspberries all over the farm, and they are small and yummy, but they aren't blackberries!

i'm with you on the spoon thing...have always used one to avoid the problem you speak of. We have a lot of berry growing in our region, and you can go to a farm, pick all you want, pay and set off home to make jelly. Yum!
We also have a large apple growing region near here, which is very popular for the same reason. I like to make apple butter.
