I'm surprising myself by my current taste in TV programmes.
I'm absolutely NOT a Petrol-Head. I don't know a piston from a gasket. When I had a couple of very basic cars, a 2CV and a Renault 4, I could clean the spark plugs and the distributor, and as long as there was petrol in the car and a good battery, they would go. That's about as far as my mechanical knowledge goes.
Henry Cole (right above) is a rather annoying, over-dominating, presenter of this TV programme (Shed-n-Buried) and along with his mates Skid, Fuzz, and Allen Millyard (and Jelly Bean his dog) they fool around whilst trying to make a few bob by wheeling and dealing.
Cole is an Old Etonian who likes to pretend that he's one of the lads. His aim is to seek out old motorbikes, cars, tractors, petrol pumps, vans, lorries, etc, get them going, give them a wash-n-brush-up, and sell them on for a profit; or occasionally a loss.
I'm not sure why I find the programme so fascinating, but I do. I suppose it's the English obsession for buying something for £1, and selling it for £2. Not that I have any intention of copying their ways.
Watching them buying, restoring, and selling is enough for me.
Lady M despairs when I watch the show; I can understand her desperation!
I'd enjoy this it's a pity I don't have a television.
ReplyDeleteI do watch Allen Millyard on YouTube and find his creations amazing especially so when one considers the limited machinery he has in his workshop.
He's a little-known genius. There's nothing he can't fix or improve. A really interesting man.
DeleteHusband enjoys Bangers and Cash. Possibly the same kind of programme.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a bit more raucous. They look like a bunch of old tramps.
DeleteI haven't seen this programme, but it sounds similar in a way to Guy Martin's, who I'm a big fan of, he gets up to all sorts of interesting and educational things.
ReplyDeleteI was watching him last night, building and 'flying' a small hovercraft.
DeleteThanks for warning me about "Shed-n-Buried". I shall do my damnedest to avoid it.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone's cup of tea; certainly not Lady M's.
DeleteI think I have seen about 10 minutes of it ! Talking about the English obsession of buying something for £1 and selling it for £2, our Dad told us that, when he was a boy, he ' got hold of ' a load of ashtrays. He went to the train station , stood at the bottom of the bridge and sold them to people getting off the train ! He said he made quite a bit !!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteDuring the last war, my father bought a 'garage full' of razor blades, and sold them all by mail order. I think he did quite well out of it.
DeleteThere are a couple of similar programmes we used to watch on cable TV. Both English. One I think is that mentioned above. Bangers and Cash. We've seen so many that even K is bored now. Of course, if they were Greek then that would be another story.
ReplyDeleteI shall look out for this one. You never know....
I don't think it's everyone cup of tea, but I find it fun.
DeleteWheeler Dealers and Car SOS are two more programmes that my husband watches (as well as Shed and Buried and the Motorbike Show). He said that Wheeler Dealers isn't the same since Ed China left.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen The Motorbike Show, but I have seen the other two. On a lot of these shows, I find the presenters rather annoying. But they'd probably find me annoying too.
DeleteI imagine that one will make it to this side of the Atlantic in a year or two.
ReplyDeleteWatch it, it's good fun.
DeleteI'd like this program. People that can take something horrible and make it fully operational and beautiful have both skill and talent.
ReplyDeleteI could actually see myself buying a fully restored old tractor. It would have to cut lawns, remove snow, and dig holes for planting trees.
I've always wanted a Grey Fergie, but I don't imagine I'll ever own one now. They're quite cheap too.
