We saw Brighton beach on our news and my first thought was that it was the last place I would go in a heatwave. A wood, forest or just somewhere green and shady would be my pick. Your bottom photo looks pretty good.
The sea is always a good attraction in hot weather. I would love to be on a beach, crowded or not, to run to the sea and back to my towel, and people to look at, and lots of colourful scenes. I would be happy on a crowded beach as a memory for one hot day.
Give me that natural shade. The shade of a tree gives a coolness different from that of an umbrella and the green relaxes and refreshes. Does for me anyway. A dip in the sea cools the whole body, lowers the temperature, but by the time you've found your towel and your spot of beach you'd be dripping again, with sweat
I still have a memory of Marsden Beach next to South Shields like this in 1976, never been seen before, and the sheer exuberance of being with all those people in that freak summer one day. I will never forget it.
The shade-giving tree is a Quince. We sit in its shade in the evenings with our first glass of wine of the day. You're right; the shade is quite different to an umbrella.
We were wondering the same thing. I've not been there in Summer for decades, but I don't remember parasols being rented. Maybe people buy them, and can return them. I have no idea.
I'm not one for crowds so I would never head for the beach on the hottest days of the year !!! I'd much rather sit in our garden { although, I do understand that many people haven't got gardens } Yours looks idyllic. XXXX
God no, I couldn't stand to be on that beach with all those people, what's the matter with them, haven't they heard of skin cancer? No, I'll have your garden any day. Or my own, or anywhere shady away from people. I dread to think what sort of a mess they might have left afterwards as well....
Like Jacqueline, I am not really one for crowds unless I am watching my beloved Hull City striving for victory. I could sit at that shady table sharing a bottle of vino with you while discussing Liz Truss's very well-hidden leadership qualities. So well-hidden you would need a team of archaeologists to unearth them.
As someone far more qualified than me said recently "It's like replacing someone with a brain the size of Britain, with someone who has a brain the size of the Isle of Man". However, I think Truss will get the job. I know nothing about her.
Photo #2 with the wonderful countryside views and nobody in sight is perfect. Like many, I love the sea and even enjoy walking a desolated beach off-season. I'm sure Massachusetts beaches are crowded today and look exactly like the photo in your post.
Many trees are natural insecticides. I know that Walnut trees have that reputation, maybe Figs do too, as we've never been troubled when sitting there.
I was in Brighton last week.Every morning the beach was disgusting.Full of plastic bottles...what is wrong with these people...They just dont give a toss and are slobs.x

Who wants to be as tightly packed as a sardine in a tin? And spare a thought for anchovies.

We are planning to swim in the sea when we return, but I hope the beach won't be like that.
Of course they have the choice! There are gardens, parks, or even back yards to sit in. No-one is forced onto a crowded beach.

Do they provide the parasols on Brighton beach? as they all look the same. Didn't know places in the UK did that.
My quiet shady garden suits me.. on the odd day of hot sun that we get.
My favourite beach memories are of Greek islands where the beaches were deserted, other than a ramshackle taverna. Pure heaven.

In Winter when we go there, even on a warm sunny day we are never crowded like this. A few people like us go there, but no crowds.

I won't SHOUT my reply to you today. Yes, the garden and a swim every few hours is our preference. Luckily we have our own pool.

Brighton Beach is so pebbly, it hurts the feet. We saw Brighton on the news and though no thank you! Each to their own I suppose.
You need to wear shoes whether swimming or not. We don't think about it any more.

Today's stage of The Tour de France has just finished, so I shall now go and sit under that shady tree with a cold beer.
My very favorite place is a little deserted cove in Oahu... just the cool breeze from the ocean and the sound of the waves. Heaven...
BTW, it was 109 F here yesterday...

Tempers always seem worse in the heat. A quiet shady place away from people seems ideal to me.
