39.08! McMurtry fan car breaks Goodwood Hill RECORD! | Festival of Speed...

If, like me, you were watching the Goodwood Festival of Speed on TV last Sunday, you will probably have seen this (below).

Forget all the Porsches, Ferraris, Astons, etc, this McMurtry beat the lot of them. It sounds like a jet engine car, but in fact it's an electric car with a fan-driven system, and faster than any F1 or Indy car.

I'd not heard the name McMurtry before, but it's all-English, an English driver, and made in Gloucestershire. Well done to all involved. Amazing car.

Wish we'd been there but in reality you get a glimpse as it flashes past - the filmed version is a better idea of the whole performance.

As with so many sporting events, you see far more from in front of the TV. The Tour de France is a classic case, which will be coming up quite soon

Very impressive.

Today in fact.

Yes, I've seen it on the news.

More like a non-flying 'plane.

I don't see the point in driving so fast you don't get to see any scenery. If you want to get somewhere that fast take a plane.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. I suspect that others might think differently.

Well done England. Sounds like an amazing piece of machinery to me

I could hardly believe it when I saw it flying up that hill. Amazing.

I didn't realise that electric cars could go so fast.

Interesting, English made too.

Yes, but England has always been the home of motor racing.

Like a bat out of hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes. Although there were straw bales round most of the course, at one point the driver passed a lethal looking stone wall.

Yes, at that flint wall everyone GASPS.

Electric and the fastest care in the race. Fantastic for Brits all around. It would be interesting to know more about the battery. My neighbor finds in high heat or cool his Tesla loses power. Musk says he's working to improve. Brits might just have the answer.

Correct to "fastest car." I'm still working on my first coffee of the day!

I noticed a huge amount of Tesla cars in Brighton UK. Here in France you're unlikely to see anything made after the year 2000.

We saw a Tesla in a car park yesterday, it wouldn't start and the driver was getting more and more bad tempered. I don't think it helped when my husband got an uncontrollable giggling fit!

One of my mowers is like that, I must check to see that it isn't a Tesla.
