Poem for a Hermit

All I desire is a comfortable chair

an ancient home

a warm hearth

a wireless

and a black and white dog.

I have no need for a mobile phone

a wide screen TV

an X Box

a super-fast computer

a car that can go from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds

a virtual reality headset

or an E-Car or Scooter.

But, hang on

I hear my phone 'ping'

I have messages on WhatsApp

my laptop is calling me

my answerphone is flashing

the scammers are pestering

everyone wants a bit of me

I can no longer resist

I've lost control.

    1. I often find the 'off switch' difficult to locate.

  2. To the point. Tech will get everyone eventually. We won't be able to function without it.

    1. If only it was that simple. Big Brother has us in his clutches.

  5. I think, at our age, it's quite important to keep up with technology otherwise, we are going to get left behind. I have a few friends who just say they can't do it without trying ..... soon, you won't be able to function without some knowledge of the technological world. I don't like all aspects of it but, we are going to have to embrace it. Nice poem. XXXX

    1. Just today I tried to login to complete our online tax return and pay some bills but our WiFi router is playing up and dropping the Internet connection every few minutes.
Now, where is my quill pen?

    2. The main thing I didn't like back in the UK was the self-service check-out desks at supermarkets. I've just about worked them out, but I'm still hesitant to use them.

  6. Why not cancel out the lot and make do with a tall ship and a star to steer her by? (metaphorically speaking of course)

  7. Very apt for today's living.

Weird, I know a person with a land line in America.

    1. You have weird friends. I too have land lines in our homes. I do use my mobile mostly, but it's good to have a back-up.

  10. That's a poem for our times. It is so hard to be solitary any more. The outside world keeps washing in.
