We have a Dutch friend, who, having just returned from Holland, very kindly gave us the cheese below.
As you can probably see, it is a Gouda type cheese, flavoured with a hand made Pesto. I suspect it will be totally delicious.
But this is not really about the cheese itself, nor about our generous friend. It is about the piece of paper on which the vacuum-packed cheese is lying.
The cheese itself is a farm produced, hand-made, cheese; vacuum-packed for convenience. But once opened, the accompanying sheet of 'cheese paper' has been specially supplied for you to re-wrap it in, in order that it stays in tip-top condition.
What a bloody marvellous idea. I have never encountered this before. Such pride in their cheese means that they even care about its correct preservation once broached.
The cheese is delicious, by the way. If only all cheesemakers/sellers were as conscientious.

I've only just heard of Gouda being made with different flavours. Hope it arrives here sometime soon.
As for your wrapping paper, it is a really great idea. I don't think that will surface here anytime soon.

That's rather good. Occasionally a company will impress you with something extra. It is not that long since spare buttons began to be attached to shirts, even collar buttons if needed. But please flat pack makers, no extra screws, nuts or bolts.
We buy a lot of Gouda with Cumin seeds, but this one with Pesto was new to us. It is delicious, and really tastes of fresh pesto.
My wife buys her contact lens liquids on line, and the company always include a small pack of 'wine gum' type sweets, which is very nice. She gives them to me!
That looks delicious and what a practical idea for the special wrapping. I didn't eat Cheddar cheese for many years because in our household, when I was growing up, the cheese (there was only ever Cheddar!) would sit sweating in the summer and then hardened and cracked in cooler climes as mum never covered it properly and we didn't have a fridge in those days.
Personally I think a good mature Cheddar is unbeatable as an all-round cheese. Here we buy St Agur (blue cheese), Gouda, and entre-deux Cantal, which are all very good. However, we've never been given special paper to wrap it in once open.
As I am very often in the Netherlands - and my Flying Dutchman is an epicurean - I have the joy to taste a lot of different sorts of Dutch cheese. The paper you show is a great idea!

The whole 2020 we have lived without our weekly friday world famous Alkmaar Cheese Market. So no Japanese tourists and I doubt whether they will come this year.

Interesting that the cheese is Gouda Cro. I saw a cookery programme the other day and whoever was doing it was singing the praises of Gouda and said it was responsible for 12 per cent of cheese sales here - yet I only ever see it for sale on our wonderful cheese stall on the market.
Sure they are wine gums and not promotional coloured contact lenses!!
We do like Boursin too; the garlic and chives variety. I hope you get your cheese market back soon.
I think it's one of the world's most popular cheeses; and rightly so. I love it.

That is a really good idea. I spend ages trying to keep all my open cheese in good condition.

It's not like ordinary greaseproof paper, it has a different feel to it. Whatever it is, it does the job perfectly.

If here means France Cro,then you should know this formaticum paper is manufactured in France. I came across it here in Melbourne a couple of years ago and I found it an excellent product.
