Happy Easter/Passover.

I can't say that I really bother too much about Easter, but I do like Hot Cross Buns, and of course Roast Lamb for supper on the biggish day.

Hot Cross Buns don't exist over here, so Lady Magnon makes ours; and very good they are too.

So, enjoy your Easter, Chag Sameach, and may your buns be as good as Lady M's!

    1. I've only had one so far; yesterday afternoon. She didn't make too many, but we should be enjoying them for a few days.

  5. Enjoy your hot cross buns. I'll have to make do with a waffle. However I do have some of the USA's finest pre-crisis maple syrup.

  7. Turkey here - lots of leftovers so I don't have to think about what to cook for quite a few days! Oh, and chocolate!
    Happy Easter all.

    1. We often keep a Turnkey in the freezer for Easter, but we knew this year that we'd be by ourselves. Lamb it is.

  9. Thanks for reminding me what I forgot. Don't know what's wrong with me. I rarely lose my nerve but going shopping when you know there is a long queue of people waiting for you to get out sets me on edge. On top of which I lost my shopping list. Anyway, this morning, courtesy of your post, I contemplated making them myself, wondering if my bun had sailed. I think it has. What will all the proving it'll be late afternoon before they come out of the oven. Where would we put the Easter roast a couple of hours later?

Here is the question, not quite Hamlet, does Lady M do Simnel Cake? Neither do I. However, today I shall add a new dimension to "fusion cuisine". My own brainchild. The apostles (marzipan, white) I shall strategically place on one of the easiest, simplest and delicious cakes ever (brown and SWEDISH), a recent discovery.

    Happy Easter, Cro,

    1. She did make one once; it was very good too. She followed a Mary Berry recipe. I expect if you type 'Simnel' into my search strip; you'd even find a photo.

    2. Yes, I do remember. Alas, fruit cake lovely as it is (Christmas or otherwise), is too dense for me. Still, by way of comfort or maybe not, the worst of all desserts/cakes has to be that American concoction, Pecan Pie. Think Thanksgiving. It is so sweet it tips into sickly. Even father-of-son's wife (she is American) concedes this to be so.

Anyway, the Swedish concoction plus apostles/disciples went well. Because I tend to give anyone the benefit of the doubt I included Judas too. He was on the periphery. Taking pity on him I swallowed him myself.

    3. I once had Pumpkin Pie in the Caribbean (cooked by an American woman), which was so sweet it made my teeth shiver. It was dreadful.

  15. Making Hot Cross Buns is no longer my scene but I have bought some rather good ones on my order this week and when they pop up from the toaster and are spread with butter they are good.

    1. We would normally buy them, but they don't have them here. Lady M is obliged to make them!

  16. Oo, nice Hot Cross Buns! I didn't make any this year as I'm rationing my yeast, haha. I can make 8 loaves of bread with what I'd use for the buns, and I'm not up for getting involved with sourdough again. Such are my priorities these days! Happy Easter!

    1. I think Lady M used some old yeast for her buns, they didn't rise as much as usual, but are still delicious.

    1. Knowing England, they'll be selling them until Christmas. Then start again in the new year.
