What's all the fuss about?

I never particularly liked my burgundy coloured EU member passport, which was forced upon us by Brussels, so I kept mine looking as it always was, and will be once again. People seem to be making a big fuss about its return to dark blue.

Of course mine (and Lady Magnon's) are only for decorative purposes, and inside lies the official EU red job.

Mine hasn't had a lot of use, but it's been often abused. In Germany I had the interior passport 'ripped' out in a very aggressive manner, and the leather cover cast to one side. The Germans really do like to think they are in charge of Europe these days; I can hardly describe how we were treated as 'non-Schengen members'. But at least my UK passport ensures that I can still travel to the USA (not that I wish to), unlike those Schengen members.

I expect my passport will be getting more use in the years to come. In future when entering mainland Europe we'll be strip-searched, shackled, waterboarded, and beaten with sticks.

But at least my passport will be dark blue.

  1. Germans just like to be controlling, it's how they are.
You won't be flying from Europe to the USA. You will have to go via the UK. The God Emperor is banning all Europeans but the British.

    1. I'm not planning a trip for the moment, but it's reassuring to know that Trump treats us Brits as 'special'.

    2. Half of it is his way of having fun. Trump is good value.

Adrian, more accurately, rather than "controlling" Germans "like to be in control". Fine difference. Who, as an individual, and which country doesn't? Ask France. Or, come to think of it, the British. Insert smiley. First they controlled an empire, now - with all their might - Brexiteers have "taken back control". Control of what? A Kindergarten?

    4. You illustrate it perfectly Ursula. Always in control.

    5. Germany has tried a few times to create an empire. The reason they haven't got one or have never really had one I'll leave for folk wiser than I to speculate upon.

    6. Your comment is a bit of a cop out, Adrian. You "leave it" to others to explain your assertion?

No idea how au fait you are with history, and leaving aside that, no doubt, you are British, let's talk snow. There was Hannibal, ca 200 something, BC. He tried to climb the Alps with his majestic elephants. Some years later, Napoleon trying to defy the snow of the Russian Bear. Fat load of good that did them. Fast forward, Germans ever the optimists, tried the same feat.

History is full of attempts at conquest, Adrian. Land, land and then some more. Land. Nations want more land. To make it a peculiarly "German" thing is somewhat narrow, Adrian. Disingenuous.

On the other hand, you may be right, where the Third Reich didn't materialize the British, somewhat earlier, managed to expand and enslave the many for the benefit of the few.

      Curry greetings,
      U

  2. Sorry, Cro. Duplicated my answer to Adrian. As we all know Germans like to be "gruendlich" (thorough); in other words "doppelt genaeht haelt besser" (sewing a button over twice makes it last longer). No depths unplumbed.

Colour is, of course, a signifier. As you, l'Artiste, will know only too well. To name but one example: Purple - the colour of royalty, the Pope and women of a certain age.

In the wake of your post I was trying to remember passport colours before the burgundy was introduced. Germany's was green as, I bet, was Italy's. Greece's most likely black.

As to your stylish cover been yanked off your passport, don't prescribe it to the yanker's nationality. The most unspeakable, and I mean unspeakable, happened to me once, being processed at British passport control. It drew gasps from everyone in the queue.

    1. The rough treatment of my passport just happened to be in Germany; I also felt a very antagonistic attitude towards us as non Schengen members. I'm not making this up!

  3. We also have an old blue passport cover but take the burgundy ones out when we need to present them to officials in other countries. I always loved the old blue passports and never warmed to the EU ones ! Daft I suppose to get so passionate about a passport ! XXXX

    1. I did like my distinctively British passport; but that's as far as it went.

  4. Germany has lost control. The German common mans newspaper Bild is complaining loudly that the German government haven’t taken any measures and cite the Austrian government as example of how to do it.

    1. The EU is going through hard times at the moment, and this will only be made worse by COVID-19. Gawd knows how it will end for them (and everyone else).

    2. The biggest worry to the EU is financial and the UK leaving is causing greater concern in this respect. The second worry is Erdogan and the worry to Germany on its own front is falling sales of German automobiles around the world. The COVID-19 is but an irritation and a deviation.

    3. That's really what I meant by 'hard times'. They have a lot on their hands financially.

  5. #Adrian Ward - as Cro is in the Schengen zone he would have to stay in UK for two weeks before being allowed to travel on. He can’t just travel straight through as some French bigwig politician said on Radio 4 this morning.

  7. I thought the blue passport was far more classy than the little maroon one. I'm glad it's coming back.

  10. My husband and I have been married for about 7 years now. We were happily married with two children, a boy and a girl. 3 months ago I started to notice strange behavior from him and a few weeks later I discovered that my husband was seeing someone. He started coming home late from work, he doesn't care about me or the kids anymore, sometimes he goes out and doesn't even come home for about 2-3 days. I did everything I could to correct this problem but to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. One day when I was surfing the Internet, I came across a website that suggested that Dr. Padman could help resolve marital problems, restore broken relationships, and so on. So I felt like I had to give it a try. I contacted him and he made a spell for me. Two days later, my husband came to see me and apologized for the wrongs he had committed and promised to never do it again. Since then, everything has returned to normal. My family and I live happily together again. All thanks to Dr. Padman. If you need a spellcaster capable of casting a spell that really works, I suggest you contact him. He will not disappoint you.
