It's 'sprouting season' at Haddock's. All those Winter greens are now beginning to sprout, and it's those 'sproutings' that are probably the best bits.
Of course, the PSB (above) is grown expressly for its sproutings, but Cavolo Nero (below) and Kale, if left in the ground, will throw up leafy 'bonus' sproutings for several weeks.
This lot was consumed last night.

We're eating the sprouting a of the spinach. Lettuces have bolted and been composted. Time to plant first pumpkins. Think spring has finally arrived, literally overnight
I have been trying to get around to order my winter vegies. Hopefully I will have time next week.
I've put in some Broad Beans, but that's all so far.
Lovely to have a good supply of greenery in the winter.... keeps the doc' away.
And again I ask myself if I'm not making a mistake that I do not grow a little greenery here.
It doesn't take much room, grows very easily, and is so useful.
Life is back to normal, you are talking about greenery and sprouting vegetables again. It is very comforting and I am sure others will be sharing this sentiment with me this morning.

At 'sprouting' time, my spirits always lift. It's one of my marker seasons.
I'm trying to persuade Paul to plant some Cavolo Nero in his new plot for next winter.
It's an easy crop, and very good for you. For us it's an essential addition to our Winter greens.

I just love green veg of any kind and these look delicious.
Every Friday a friend and I go to a rather 'posh' restaurant and treat ourselves to lunch.
If we have fish pie (delicious) they serve it with crispy kale iis kale, cut into bite sized pieces, tossed in olive oil and crisped in a hot oven for ten minutes (I tried it in a saute pan on top of the stove and it did it just as well.
I never have "garden" greens, so I am not sure what sprouts are ? New growth from cutting that you pick early ? Whatever they are they look so wonderful.

I have tried that, and as you say it's delicious. It changes the flavour completely, and (dare I say it) makes it far more acceptable to those who otherwise wouldn't like it.
They are simply tender little flowering shoots that grow in Spring after the plants are, otherwise, finished.
