Sunday the 29th was the day of our village Brocante (boot sale), and I returned home with just one purchase.
It's a pretty classic early ecclesiastical wooden pricket candlestick. Probably early 18th C, it is part carved and part turned, gessoed, then painted in a rather dull grey/brown colour; most of which has since come off. It reeks of age.
A nice little (50 cms tall) piece that will compliment my collection of early rustic objets. It was probably the oldest thing there!

I think Tom will like this! Do you have a showcase for your collection, Cro?
Greetings Maria x
Most of my antiques are spread around the place; some are even in daily use. I'm not over 'precious' with things. I probably should be more so.
I wondered too what you did with all your finds. Glad to hear you use them when you can. You can enjoy them more that way
I like to buy practical things, but a bit of nonsense (like the above) is also very welcome.
Good to hear you are junior to 18th century piece. I have wondered.
Nice. I like French boot sales.
Some people there might not have been able to claim as much.
Our village one was particularly good this year. Less rubbish, more temptation.
I missed it this year. Always the best one in the area in my opinion.
What a lovely piece.
Will you use it, maybe at the Holidays ?
cheers, parsnip
I like hearing that you use the treasures you find! It's so much better than putting them away in a drawer or something.
And very handy too. Frayssinet 12th Aug, but don't tell anyone
I shall certainly try to find a suitable candle, and drip tray.
Things are always best used. We eat off antique plates, and drink from antique glasses. It makes everything taste so much better.
I would be in my element a la Brocante. I LOVE your candlestick ...... very me. XXXX
I thought it may be! It has a beautiful feeling of age, and semi decay. I love that stage of antiques.
Love it Cro and I am sure you can find the perfect spot to display it in your lovely cottage.
It'll certainly find a good home, it's a nice little piece.
