In her best seller, 'Au Revoir', Aussie TV celebrity Mary Moody describes me as 'Dashing and Loveable'.
I like 'Dashing and Loveable', I would even have a big banner made.
But, she also says I'm an 'Eccentric'. I am NOT 'Eccentric', in fact I would describe myself as extremely 'Concentric'. But there we are; one person's black is another person's white.
Modesty dictates that I show no more of Ms Moody's amusing assessment of me, other than to pick out the words 'Old Fashioned', 'Romantic', 'Solitary', and 'Talented', I'll go along with all of those; maybe even get another banner made.
It's just the word 'Eccentric' that erks.

I like eccentric, it applies a kind of non-conformist charm. I wouldn't mind being described thus.
I forgot to mention that I like 'early fifties' too; but it was written about 10 years ago.

Having known you for quite a while longer than Ms Moody (although we have been out of touch for quite a few years since then) I have to concur with her on the subject of eccentricity. Anyone who gives his girlfriend a prime specimen of a dried dog-turd, neatly gift-wrapped in a little box, could justifiably be described as at least a tad on the eccentric side, wouldn't you say?
P.S. - I am described in a book (fiction, and set in Bath) as looking like a figure from a Pre-Paphaelite painting. That just shows how long ago the book was written.

I rather like the word eccentric, unless it applies to road wheels fitted to the Compact Royce etcetera. Far better to be eccentric than strange ...

Well, we already knew you were rather eccentric, (as in, a free-wheeling non-conformist... NOT "strange" or "bonkers") but we didn't know you'd been immortalized in a BOOK! Guess that makes you eccentric and... immortal. Good for you!
Perhaps your only are too, too sensative. Eccentric is lovely. Curmudgeon, for instance, is not.
Definitely a compliment. Nothing to do with being 'bonkers' - more to do with creative thinking. Who'd want to be described as 'ordinary'?
I agree with Kath. I see it as more whimsical than 'bonkers' or 'odd ball'.
You have certainly been around a bit- and to get mentioned in someone else's book I would say you are a bit of a charmer, interesting and maybe just a little bonkers.

ooohhhhhhh!!!!!!! Cro you are not the Frenchman she had the now famous dalliance with...of course not Lady M would never stand for that... and you are far too much a gentleman.. I shall read the book again with more interest..perhaps one day lol her book was all the latest one to get a few years back,her life seemed so interesting compared to all our little boring lives ...
