I think I previously used the word 'collection' to describe my few Weigelas; probably not quite appropriate as I have just four different varieties.
I'd like to find more, as they really are the simplest flowers to grow, and they behave themselves well.
They are the perfect flower for 'non-gardeners' such as me; you snap a piece off a neighbour's plant, and stick it in the ground. Perfect.
The second plant, and this last one, look very similar, but the second one becomes pale pink inside when totally open, whereas this one stays red all over.
I could easily become obsessed by these fellas, but being both lazy and reasonably sensible....

Morning Cro - guess what, I was just going to say that I don't have a Weigela in the garden, but I do, I've just remembered - a variegated leafed one with pink flowers that I took as a cutting from somewhere. How can you forget a plant in your own garden - anyway it is beautiful when in flower - they last for ages and are certainly good value for money. I'm not surprised you love them.

ReplyDeleteThey survived our recent -13 C winter. Our Oleanders and certain climbers didn't.
DeleteNever really subscribed to the classification of plantoids into either flowers or weeds. Anything that looks good, plants itself and needs no artificial tending is a magnificent flower in my view. If it's clever enough to come up with several variations of itself in order to look fresh then it's championship material. Tick ruddy VG!

ReplyDeleteOur neigbours (no green thumbs to be honest) have planted right at the fence next to my veggie bed - and it is getting along nicely! So I can enjoy it like it was in my garden:-)
