There are only two sounds around us at the moment; combine-harvesting Maize (probably for silage), and the mowing of the Chestnut plantations (above). Both sounds herald Autumn, and the imminent arrival of Winter.
The weather is still almost perfect. The mornings are cool, the pool water quite cold, but the afternoons are around 30 C. Yes we still swim, but getting in the water is slower than usual.
If, in the future, you think of holidaying in this part of S W France; September is the month I would recommend.
Serious rain is forecast for next weekend. If it's long and hard enough it would be perfect to bring up some mushrooms. We've had very poor Cèpe harvests for the past two years, so we need to build-up our preserves again.

We have gale force winds but no rain in sight. One of my favourite months. Temps drop a little and kids go back to school. They start on 14th.
Yes, they mow then put down nets. I've just had another look at our forecast, and the promised rain for the weekend has now disappeared. It doesn't bode well for mushrooms.
It's rained regularly here but apart from a few miserly puff balls there is nothing.
Our annual Cepe harvest is a major part of local culture (and income for many), and we have had hardly any for years. Not good enough.
One can dream of visiting SW France in September.

We have hundred of mushrooms of different types sprouting up all over the place.... our garden is VERY wet ! I wouldn’t eat any of them as I haven’t a clue as to which ones are edible and which ones would kill me 🤣 XXXX

For the moment it doesn't look too good. We need really heavy rain this month or it'll be another bad year.
Strangely, this is the best year for ceps I have known. I stole a load from Lord Bath two days ago.

No mushrooms here. Rain is predicted. Crisp days of Fall are beautiful and very much welcomed. Your photo is serene and shows the beginning of Fall. As Winter comes closer.
Even now we only eat a few dozen Chestnuts. Those first few are the best, and then one becomes blasé. A few Cepe omelettes would be nice.

I think I have mentioned before that friends in rural Stirlingshire used to harvest mushrooms and dry them every year but they didn't have any luck for a few years and I think that they have given up now.

At this time of year we always went out with huge baskets to bring back our haul, but things seem to have changed. Other mushrooms (Hedgehog mushrooms) later in the season, used to be everywhere, but no more. We'll all have to find a new hobby.
We did manage a swim yesterday. The cool mornings now lead to beautiful warm days. I'm still sleeping on top of the bed clothes.
