Premature Crimbo.

I think almost all of us must be pissed-off by the constant Christmas hype that has now overtaken most TV and press advertising. I have even seen newspaper articles comparing the quality of this year's Xmas ad's.... Giving them 'ratings'.... As if we bloody care!

If there's one sure way of making people anti-Christmas, it's by bombarding us with commercial rubbish over a month and a half in advance.

Yes, of course I will decorate a tree, eat Roast Turkey, and exchange small gifts with Lady Magnon, but this crazy annual hype really does get on my nerves.

re: The above advert. I do not associate Christmas with Lidl one little bit. In fact now that I've used their ad' as my illustration, I shall make specially sure not to go anywhere near them.

Luckily I am unlikely to see an advert for Leclerc, but would avoid their Christmas section anyway!

Thank goodness there are no Xmas ads here yet on TV. Elsewhere, in the big cities, shops are gearing up but it won't reach us till mid December, hopefully.
Yesterday I saw an ad for black Friday, god help us. I had forgotten about this foreign phenomena. Last year was the first time it really took place here. Pity! Looks like it made everyone enough money to repeat.

It's nice living in a back water

Is Black Friday the crazy shopping day? Yes, another ridiculous commercial invention. Why are people so gullible????

I agree. Too much too soon, regarding Christmas advertising.
I do, however, think you'd be"cutting your nose off to spite your face" if you don't have a look in Lidl. They do some really wonderful things. The charcuterie and cheeses are second to none.

We do have one nearby. I went to look when it first opened; I wasn't impressed. Maybe I'll have a peek nearer the 25th.

Nothing about Christmas should be heard until the 1st of December.

Cro Magnon said...

I would make that the 20th. OK, maybe the 15th.

21st.

22nd.

You are cutting down on charcuterie and cheese.

1st. I'm not missing my advent calendar. (A glittery, old fashioned one, not a chocolate one.)

I've always wanted to have a little Christmas flavor here, but of course there isn't.

It's a commerical time and every extra day is profit. We don't do a big thing, grandchildren has a small gift, hubby and I exchange gifts, not spending more than £40 each. We can afford to do more, but it's not the blown up glittering Christmas we want, we love the old ways the best, dressing my tree is like seeing old friends as I use decorations we have had for yours.

Cro Magnon said...

I'll stick to the 20th.

Cro Magnon said...

I used to have one from my childhood, but I have no idea where it is now. Pity.

Cro Magnon said...

Watch UK TV Yael. It's already started.

Cro Magnon said...

That's pretty much what we do too. No silly expensive presents; not even for the grandsons. It's the atmosphere of the 24th, 25th, and 26th that I enjoy; nice fire, tot of Port, Turkey sandwiches etc.

Cro Magnon said...

Sadly, yes! But I can always admire from afar!

Just think how miserable the winter would be without Christmas (OK, cut all the annoying jingles).

I agree 100% What also pees me off is the term "Crimbo". Never heard it until about 3 years ago and now, well, even here. Where did it come from?

Gwil W said...

Billionaire Herr Lidl is something of a recluse. Not the ubiquitous chap we expect at Christmas at all. There are hardly any photos of reputedly Germany's richest man in existence.

Gwil W said...

Perhaps he's the real Santa and all the others are merely copies?

Cro Magnon said...

Don't get me wrong; I love Christmas. It's just all the hype I can't stand.

Cro Magnon said...

Don't blame me, although if I had a copyright on it's usage I'd be happy.

Cro Magnon said...

If I was lucky enough to be in his shoes, I think I'd be a recluse too; as in fact I am (without the wealth).

I just love Christmas and we do it our way . XXXX

Cro Magnon said...

I love Christmas too, but I do wish they'd stop shouting about it so early on.

I hate to admit it, but I went last week with two of my daughters to a Holiday Open House at a lovely little town store. I guess they want to get a head start on the large retailers. They did, and it was packed with people buying every Christmas item they could carry. They served wine, cider, and hors d’oeuvres. It was fun and I bought a few baubles myself that I did not need but will use as gifts. The wine may have played a part in that.

I feel like you do Cro and avoid it all like the plague.

Today I heard my first jingle bells ringtone. Two days ago I saw a woman with a plastic Christmas tree sticking out of a large carrier. I thought it was a long eared dog in the bag in the darkness, but when she passed under a lamp I saw it was really a plastic tree.

Joanne Noragon said...

Do you suppose LeClerc will have counter balance looms on sale?

Cro Magnon said...

I always buy one new 'bauble' for the tree every year. I'll probably take Boo Boo with me this year, and he can chose it.

Cro Magnon said...

The problem is, that we can't. It's everywhere.

Cro Magnon said...

I'll have a look for you Joanne. Any particular size?

Cro Magnon said...

The only thing worse than a plastic tree, is a small plastic tree. It says a lot about people.
