In 'artistic' terms, I much prefer winter trees to summer trees. All that greenery gets in the way of the structure.
I have a friend who always describes summer landscapes as being like fields of Cabbages; which is rather how I see them too.
Much more fun to draw the 'scaffolding' rather than whatever is being held-up.
I love to walk in a leafy landscape, but not to draw, or paint it.

Same with photography in colour or in black-and-white. Love to see the structure.
It's usually far more interesting than when 'leafy'.
The trees I photographed in Odessa were the best of both worlds, leafy and structure. I think they were sycamore.
Old Chestnut trees become very tortured. I like all the dead branches, rot, and age.
I will put some photographs up on my blog later.
As sometimes older faces are too.
So, you get the best of both worlds. Good for sketching in the Winter and lovely shady walks in the Summer. Perfect all round 🙂 XXXX
Summer here has become more difficult lately, but there are some trees that stay green and that is what I like.
That's how I see it too. We also have mushrooms in the woods today.
Everything is very green here now. We've had quite a lot of rain (and sun) recently, and everything just GROWS!
Step-Daughter used to call broccoli spears 'trees' to get her daughter to eat them. 'You've just eaten a tree!'
That's exactly what our landscape looks like; masses of Broccoli spears.
Cabbages always remind me of Crackerjack!
Grandchildren always referred to broccoli and cauliflower as 'green trees' and 'white trees'.
Bare trees can be so cold and stark - and who does not wonder at that special time when deciduous trees start 'greening' with tiny little leaves becoming obvious.
I am of the Crackerjack era. You possibly heard me shouting it when I read your first sentence.
Winter and it’s landscape is dramatic and beautiful. There is a certain peace about it also.

I tend to agree Cro. When the hedges and trees first burst into leaf it is beautiful but soon, when there have been a few gales and wet days, everything begins to look a bit worn. In winter there is a structure that stays there. Love your drawing.

The view down our large boulevard is more interesting when the trees are leafless.

I just like the greenery, especially on shade trees in the summer. Do like that drawing though.
We all look forward to Spring and fresh growth, then when it comes it soon loses its fascination.

Here we have a lot of very big old Plane trees lining the roads, and village squares, etc. They always look so much better in winter.
Leaves certainly have their advantage.
