Favourite clothes.

We were discussing our choice of clothes last night.

I've never really had favourite clothes, but I did remember a favourite 'designer' shirt (Rocha) that I'd bought way back in the 1980's.

I loved that shirt. It had cost me a small fortune, and it was admired by all (ahem).

I named it my 'Nosebleed Shirt', but I have no idea what happened to it. The well known designer commands considerable respect these days, and I'm sorry it's not still hanging in my wardrobe.

Lady Magnon seems to think it was worn until threadbare, and probably became a designer duster.

It was quite similar to the shirt above, but with a BIGGER pattern.

Oh my lovely Nosebleed Shirt!

  3. I thought nosebleed shirt as soon as I saw it. I bet it looked good when it had been washed a million times and faded.

    1. It did become very nice when faded; I was expecting the cops to take it away as evidence, at any moment.

  4. Was it before Lady M's time? If not, did she like it? Otherwise I would suspect that her suggestion that it became a nose bleed duster might really be more than just a guestion?!

    1. It was certainly in her time. Maybe she secretly made the dusters.

  5. I'm surprised Lady M didn't confiscate it.

  6. I like it. I have a blue and purple paisley shirt, which I still have, that I love. It's now vintage.

    1. Ah, at last someone with good taste. It was a 'connoisseur' shirt.

  7. Whether you'd make Billy Gibbons' (ZZ Top) grade of "Sharp Dressed Man" is doubtful. My god, that man dresses so well, with such style and seemingly effortlessly so.

Your bloodied shirt certainly one up from tie-die, a strange textile "art" form considering how hit and miss the outcome. Jackson Pollock they weren't. By which I give Jackson Pollock credit in as much as, contrary to folklore, I am sure he didn't, indiscriminately, throwing pots of paint at his canvas before crashing out.

I am still very attached to a dream boat of a skirt (a very grown up skirt in its long length, seductive floaty way). Alas, for reasons I can't fathom, I did NOT buy it. Yet, thirty years on its image still stays with me. Amazing, don't you think, not least since I have worn many memorable clothes over the years? Maybe it was one of those dreamy not to be consummated love affairs - never to be forgotten. For all I know I might have ruined it on our first public outing. Then I WOULD have been inconsolable.

    1. I have a friend who has a 1950's 'Rock and Roll' skirt with sewn-on musical notes, names of singers, picture of Elvis, etc.

It's a most amazing thing that she bought new, and has never worn.

  8. It was Biba for me .... I still have a couple of things. I bet your friends envied your ‘ Nosebleed Shirt ‘ XXXX

    1. I remember Biba well. I knew 'The Twins' who worked there. Does that mean anything?

  9. "Nosebleed" shirt - you're not selling it well, Cro! You have sons, might one of them carried it off? That's what tended to happen in our household. But why is it so difficult to buy a really fabulously coloured man's shirt? I've been searching for years with little success, both pattern and colour options are really weedy.

    1. It's usually the opposite in this family. It's me who walks off with their abandoned clothes. They only wore stuff until it became 'slightly used'; I wear them until they disintegrate.

  10. The wildest I ever got was wearing a maroon bow tie and cummerbund with my DJ. The first time I did so to a function I was politely asked by the butler to accompany him to his parlour where he showed me drawers of discarded black ties and cummerbunds and suggested I change. How times have altered.
