I try again; Cro and Daughter.

Mr Blogger wouldn't allow to me to publish this picture recently, so I've had to photograph it from my laptop screen, and process it in a format that it likes. Sadly the quality has suffered.

My friend, S, who lives on an idyllic Caribbean island, is one of those meticulous people who saves, and files, every single photograph he takes, and has recently sent a whole barrow-load to my son in London. Mostly they are photos that we've not seen before. The above is one such.

My daughter, Tenpin, must have been about 13 when it was taken, and no doubt still had photos of Wham on her bedroom wall. She now lives in Queensland Oz and has two lively sons.

Me, I must have been in my late 30's, was still smoking Gauloises, and, amazingly, had some colour in my hair and beard.

I do enjoy looking back at old pictures, especially ones of me and my little girl.

    1. Good. I think it was its unusual format that restricted it the last time.

    1. We think the same, which is why I have a pile of old laptops in a box.

  3. I love looking at old photos: even other peoples if I know who they are. And that's usually the problem. I have cleared out thousands of photos and cine films over the years because the people who took them left no clue as to who they were of. I have been taking photos since I was 6 and have gradually started digitising them all but it's such a huge task it may never get done. I have 150,000 digital images alone and many, many thousands in printed, negative and slide formats. The slide formats are a priority for digitising because I, and almost everyone I know, disposed of their projectors long ago. Although digital media formats change it has so far always been possible to transfer from one to another easily.

    1. I think we all tended to value our photos much more when we used 35ml 'film', and stuck things in big books. Nowadays they tend to be left on Picasa (or elsewhere) and never printed off.

Digital photography is wonderful, but it's made us all lazy.

  4. I have several old photo albums somewhere but I am not bothered about looking back at the past, preferring instead to always be looking towards the tomorrow. But the farm related photos are different, and these are all tidily filed away on a gadget, and these I look at often.

    1. I have only one photo of our present house from when we bought it. I do wish I'd taken more.

  5. Nice to see Tenpin. You talk less of her here than the boys. She looks like you too. Why did she settle in Oz?

    1. She's a diver, and I think living by the Great Barrier Reef had appeal. Otherwise it's just a great place to live.

  8. All your children and the grandchildren you have shown resemble you.

That picture is special because instead of looking at the camera, you are looking at each other.

  13. Great photo!

My father cleaned house after my mother died, and discarded most of the house's contents, including the photos. I have a few, largely left me by my grandmothers when they passed. Even though I've never liked to have my picture taken, I do like to look at old photos and am glad for the few that survived the Giant Raze.
