Plan and Action.

This was my original plan for the barn kitchen....

.... and this is how it ended up.

The washing-up machine is now by the fridge, and the washing machine is out in the barn, otherwise it's much as I planned.

Still a few minor things to do, but generally a good serviceable and spacious kitchen.

    1. Still some tiling to do, but otherwise we're almost done.

  2. Coveting the wood fired oven. Then again piped gas is less time consuming.x

    1. It's a really nice stove. It's Italian, and has a big oven, as well as heating the water for the radiators etc.

  3. Very smart. Makes sense to put the dishwasher near to the cupboards where most of the china etc., is stored.

    1. Yes, my original positioning of both washing machines was a little 'fanciful'. Much more practical now.

  5. We antipodeans don't really understand this english thing of putting the laundry in the kitchen -I mean if it's a case of existing limitations of plumbing then fair cop, but otherwise it's daft. good to hear it has found a better home. LOVELY kitchen

    1. There is still room for a dedicated Laundry Room, but for the moment the machine is just plonked by all the heating paraphernalia.

    2. In many English houses there just isn't space for a separate laundry room.

  6. That oven looks impressive...and well done on the kitchen itself.

    1. Both ovens are impressive; I wish we had as good here.

  7. Generous in proportion, warm and light looking - a fine working place for cooking! And changing the table in the middle to "see through" was a good idea too - as glass on the front of the hanging lockers. How is the cooker fuelled?

    1. The one cooker has a gas hob and electric oven, the other one is wood fired. The best of all worlds methinks.

  13. I know it SOUNDS a ridiculous question but isn't: Are you left handed?

As to the positioning of the dishwasher: Your original design makes much more sense (proximity of sink to dishwasher).

Other than that how lovely all that space, precious space, the ultimate luxury, don't you think?

    1. I'm right handed, so are Wills and Kellogg (I think). The washing-up machine had to move because of space (I thought like you). I think there were also minor problems with plumbing.

    2. p.s. I've always said that wasted space is one sign of good design.

  16. Your clear plan has been translated into a kitchen that's attractive and functional. It looks like a dream, as I compare it to the tiny alcove I call my kitchen.

On a completely different topic, I read today about some changes being made to the spelling of certain French words, and the dropping of the circumflex. Perhaps you will feature this topic in a future post?

    Best wishes.

  19. Beautiful, practical and workable, Cro. You are good! I also moved my washing machine from next to the dishwasher in my kitchen to a refurbished laundry (compliments of my dear Grant) attached to his garages. This particular room used to be the cat-house for the ten cats I owned about nine years ago! Have a great weekend. Jo

    1. Certain machines really don't need to be in a kitchen; a washing machine is a good example.

  20. Looking good. I'm glad you ended up with a good sized fridge freezer. We bought the style originally in your drawing.. it's turned out to be way too small.
