The Willow Ball 2012.

I'm off to today's annual Willow Ball. My partner this year is gorgeous local girl, Eleanor of Aquitaine (that's her above).

Eleanor was a little hesitant to accept my invitation. Like most women, she was worried about her ball gown not being à la mode, she also claims to know little of dances or dancing; other than something called a 'carola' (which she says she does enjoy).

I assured her that she'd most certainly be the 'belle of the ball'. And as for the dancing; I said we'd muddle along somehow.

I do hope Tess will still be offering us her famous Scotch eggs; I really want Eleanor to taste one of those.

We'll see you all there!

  1. Cro! You're up in the wee hours to visit Willow Manor! I'm very excited to meet your legendary date. I'm sorry to say the Scottish eggs are not on the menu this year...American fare...which I'm sure the lovely lady will enjoy...

(I have a spot saved for you on my dance card.)

  3. You know, I'll bet that Eleanor is just feeling a bit out of her element, and that once she meets Willow's friends, she'll relax -- and maybe she can teach us the carola. Is that anything like the macarena?

  4. It's my unsubstantiated theory that E of A introduced Morris dancing to England, with her entourage of troubadors, so I'm sure your date will manage a step in time. Enjoy yourselves :-)

    1. Probably thanks to her good friend Maurice de Chevalier, who was a great dancer. It is rumoured that Maurice also invented the Hokey-Cokey.

  5. I commend to you the curiously apposite advice of my tailor - beware the hang-over.

    Damned impertinent chap.

  8. Another ball. Another chap who fails to invite me. I'm starting to take all this very personally. I think I'll just follow John's lead and spend time sitting on my arse playing "Rat poison, Rat Poison who has the rat poison?"

    1. I thought you'd arrive on horseback, not on ratback.

  15. Eleanor is quite splendid and we chatted around the banquet table... she seems to be quite fond of American Ketchup!

  16. I mised Scotch eggs too! First the rum, and now Scotch eggs- (I guessing my date got some) but that's another story. I hope Eleanor enjoyed herself, and I hope she had at least one dance.
