The Wheels of Progress Turn Mighty Slow.

It seems that my 'builder' (the bloody JCB driver) has not forgotten that we exist, as a couple of truck-loads of 'undercoat' gravel have recently been dumped in the new drive.

I'm now wondering when he'll return to spread it about a bit.

Just in case you were wondering, builders are same the world over. Their well-known slogan of 'a thing of beauty, is a joy for two weeks' exists everywhere.

It pays to be philosophical about builders, but most of all, it pays never to be in a hurry..... but you knew that didn't you!

  3. Am in 99% agreement with you.

For I have only ever known one gang of builders who remained on the job every day from start to finish and that was when my present home was re-roofed.

  4. You are a patient man Cro. I have been waiting on a landscaper for two weeks now to edge all my gardens. He said he would be here the Saturday before last, then called and said he would be here the following Monday. When he did not show up, we expected to see him this weekend. I have a feeling we may have to call someone else, but there is no guarantee that they will show up either.

  6. A lot of negativity floating around blogtopia just recently...what's that about? Spring madness?

  7. I'm glad they didn't forget you, Cro. We had wonderful builders when we were building our last house. Actually, we had a wonderful general contractor and he got the crew together. Worth his weight in gold, that man. We helped with the building in small ways.

  8. If you ever give them a hint that you are in a hurry, they will go twice as slow!!!

  9. Talk about frustrating ... I tried to read your post about something frustrating, and it wasn't there! HA! Evidently, you got it off your chest and aren't frustrated anymore. As for the work there getting done, baby steps. Those workers all seem to take baby steps ... but even baby steps eventually complete the journey.

  11. sorry about typo - what I was trying to say is that - we find, paying them once the job is completed and not before does seem to speed it up no end.

  13. We have one fellow who does work on the farm when husband cannot get to it. We pay him in meat or milk. Because he has 6 children he tends to get our tasks done fairly quickly.

And about that 21 year old you...I believe riding around in automobiles listening to Pink Floyd wiht you would have been righteous.
