The pool has been open for less than two weeks, and I noticed that the sides had become dull and discoloured over winter. Just below the water line it had become slightly beige-ish and dirty looking.
I tried scrubbing, but nothing happened. Then I remembered our little trick from last year; Vitamin C.
I emptied a Kilo pack of Ascorbic Acid powder into the flow of the water jets, and within an hour the pale blue liner was as clean as the day it was installed.
You might see from the photo that everything is now sparkling clear (on reflection I should have taken a 'before' photo).
If you, or your friends, have the same problem with grubby looking pools, remember Vitamin C.
On top of which, we probably won't catch a cold for the next ten years!!!
Very interesting and one I had not heard of. I wonder what it does to the inside of humans? Don't drink the water.
ReplyDeleteI've no idea, but I'm told it neutralises the Chlorine, so I'll have to watch the levels closely.
DeleteI think it is also good for the skin.
ReplyDeleteThat's why mine is as smooth as a baby's bottom!
DeleteLooks good. Wouldn't get much use here though as neither of us are over keen on swimming. It is a lot like my late sister-in-law's pool.
ReplyDeleteWhen the temperature's right, I can't keep out of it.
DeleteThat's a new one on me. I've heard of Coca-Cola being used to clean stuff. The old copper pennies used to come up like new. Had no idea you buy vitamin c powder by the kilo.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's lots for sale online; it's not cheap.
DeleteLooks wonderfully inviting.
ReplyDeleteIf only the weather was too. It's been a while since we took the plunge.
DeleteI do envy you your pool and the weather to go with it ..... it looks sparkling and so inviting but, that black cloud in the distance probably put the kibosh on a swim that day !!!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteIt certainly did. It's been on and off rain/sun for the past week. At this time of year I have so much to do outdoors that it has been really inconvenient (and for swimming too).
DeleteSame here ..... wet, cold and downright miserable ..... puts the kibosh ( my word of the day it seems ! ) on gardening.XXXX
DeleteLooks so inviting Cro.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually quite cool here today; no swimming.
DeleteJust wondering what it does when humans take it?

It says on the packet 'Do not consume'. So I expect it would kill you!
DeleteI've seen the same advice for cleaning the inside of a dishwasher. Your pool looks heavenly. Ours needs a new liner this year, unfortunately. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIf your liner is simply looking tired, try the Vitamin C. We had one tiny hole in our liner 2 years ago, and I filled it with transparent Silicone. It did the job and is invisible.
