I have never searched for fame or riches. I'm one of those people who has always been happy to blend into the background, do my own thing, and hopefully live a pleasant life.
With Christmas now behind us, it has made me think of my life's priorities, and to me there is nothing more important than 'family'.
These days I can think of no greater pleasure than sitting down with my children and grandchildren, and eating and drinking, and enjoying good laughter-filled conversation (preferably outdoors in sunshine).
Knowing that one has raised one's children to be good and successful citizens is the best feeling.
This photo was taken chez nous last Summer (by Lady M) in S France. It pictures me, Wills, Kimbo, and Boo Boo, enjoying a few glasses of Champagne; as we do!
One of my greatest pleasures as a father, was discovering that my children all have a very fine sense of humour. I cannot abide humourless people. Looking at that lovely smile on Boo Boo's face suggests that my grandsons have also inherited the quality. A good sense of humour, and a love of good food and wine, are far more important in life than £Millions in the bank or a 1st from Balliol.
Believe me; it's true!

Family is paramount to me. Both my NZ and Australian family and my close Greek family. I am supremely happy to have my daughters and grandchildren so close. They bring me the greatest joy in my life.
ReplyDeleteThese Christmas holidays they were all on the island. Those working or studying in the big city make it a priority to return for these celebrations.
Our house is literally filled with love and laughter.
You too Cro are blessed with your wonderful family. We all wish those days together would be endless and treasure the time together
I have a feeling that your family are a great bunch. They are always active and smiling; what more could you wish for. We are both very lucky.
DeleteI agree with both of you. Indeed, family is the most precious thing.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I'm still solvent at the end of each year, money means very little to me. The most important thing is 'family'.
DeleteFamily is overrated. I would rather have a bowl of soup.
ReplyDeleteThings are different oop north. Would thou drink thy soup at the bottom of thy stairs?
DeleteNay lad. Int' coil-oil*.
Delete*coalhouse.
P.S. I was kidding about family just to stir The Beast of Magnon. As for you, family means the world to me.
I had presumed as much. I was just practicing my patois. Did I do OK?
DeleteYour profile picture shows you in a flat cap. It's a shame that Billy is not a whippet. I could give you online Yorkshire dialect lessons at only fifty guineas per forty minute session.
DeleteI did once own a 'flat cap', but it was stolen by a very pretty Parisienne, and I didn't like to scold her!
DeleteI wish I had such a family. I only have my sister and her brood that I see far too little of.
ReplyDeleteYou are very blessed, Cro.
My family is spread around the world, but we do all get together quite often. You're right; I AM blessed.
DeleteSuccess.
