I would never normally buy such a thing as tinned Houmous, but in these times of austerity, and threats of power loss, etc, I thought it might be a good idea to see if this was any good. It is Turkish made, so my expectations were high.

In fact it was quite a revelation. The texture was perfect, and the flavour excellent. It had a very slight nutty taste which I expect was the greater sesame content. All in all it was excellent; and I really wasn't expecting to say that.
Once extracted from its can, I bathed it slightly in Olive Oil, and sprinkled it with Sumac; it needed nothing more.

I don't know if I could recommend all canned varieties, but if you can find this one (Sofra), I would happily suggest a few for the store cupboard.

I don't think I can find it here. It's surprising that hummus from a tin can be delicious.
We were both very surprised at how good it was. I usually make my own, and I would say that this was 'as good as'.
This is just one more thing that I have never tried.
But only if you like Hummus! Nasty stuff!
That is the second time in 12 hours I have heard mention of sumac !. Someone was talking about it on LBC in the night ! I must get some.
I have no idea what the British love affair with Hummus is all about.

It's one of the great inventions of the Middle East.
It tastes slightly Lemony, but it's no big deal.
Once you start to really enjoy it, you're hooked. It's addictive.

It was tinned Banana Blossoms that caught my eye in Morrison's this am.
It never happened like that for me. There was no gap in my life that needed to be filled with the taste of hummus.
Your hummus looks delicious, particularly with the olive oil floating on top. If I ever get around to stashing canned goods for the apocalypse, I will try to secure some canned hummus...maybe a crate or two of it!
Curious to know the sodium content....?

I saw a few strange things in Sainsbury's this morning too; none of which I wanted.
I think it cost about the same as a tin of Chick Peas, so with the one tin, and no lemon, no tahini, no olive oil, etc, it worked out quite cheap too.
I didn't look, but it certainly didn't taste salty.
I've never seen hummus in a can. My kids like it to dip their tortilla chips in.

I've never seen hummus in a tin can. The brand is not typical for US grocery shelves. Soon you'll have a cupboard of quality emergency tins.
It's certainly unusual, which is why I bought it. I might get a couple more just to have it for emergencies.
I bought it at a very exotic Asian store, so brand names are from all over the world.
I both make and but hummus but I have never seen it in a tin. Ordinarily it has a short shelf life so a tin for emergencies is a good idea.
Both, it just doesn't appeal, I don't like chick peas.
And for a bonus, it was very good!
