My village held its annual 'Country Fair' yesterday. No horses this year as someone's thrown a wobbly, and the necessary fields were unavailable. Instead they had a few old tractors and a car or two.
There was an old-ish Peugeot and matching caravan.
A bizarre over restored orange tractor with a rear mounted engine.
And a couple of quite nice looking early water pumps.
There were also a couple of organised mass walks (the type where people take ski sticks and rucksacks).
That's it really. Not much more I can say!

The caravan looks as if it's been chopped in half.
I saw those water pumps go past my window, they were on the back of a trailer.
No food, no wine ? I have the souvenir of very animated nice fairs in the Pays Basque and Southern France.How many souls live in your village ?

Interesting caravan. Pity about the horses.
This was just a countryside day out. Plenty of food and drink at lunchtime, but not much otherwise. We are a 'community' rather than a village, and very spread out over a large area. I think there are about 240 villagers.
The horses used to be the major part of the day. Without them is was rather dull.
Maybe not quite my idea of a good day out but hey, each to their own !!! If there was food and drink though, I could have been tempted !! XXXX
The food and drink was for the exhibitors and the returning walkers. Accompanied by dreadful muzak.
I would guess that that tractor is an Allis Chalmers tobacco planter.
That water pump looks a good bit of kit too, with, I see, the oil can at the ready and rag in hand.
Your knowledge of tractors astounds me. I looked it up and you're spot on! Sadly no tobacco is grown here any more.
I firstly thought it must be something to do with the vineyard but couldn't see what task it could do. I thought of your tobacco barn and the penny dropped. I have just been doing some housework and cleared up all Peter's tractor magazines! I will show him the tobacco planter tonight.
I just googled it and see it was designed for use on small market gardens and farms and was used for general cultivation and not always with the tobacco planting attachment. We had an Allis in the barn but not used for many years.
It seems to be fitted with a multiple hoeing system.
Animals have a way of bringing out more people than tractors but at least yo had a sunny day for the fair.
Being an agricultural community, people are reasonably interested in tractors, but horses were always more popular.
Sorry no horses.

Last year there were probably 100 horses and riders who went on a long ride around the area together. This year, unfortunately, the necessary fields to accommodate all the horse boxes etc were not available. Those same fields will not be available for parking for all further activities in the village, making life very difficult.
Definitely a Peugeot.
