Nuts in May.
I only have to hear the name Candice-Marie, and I'm immediately whisked away into a world of cringe-invoking fantasy. You really have to feel so sorry for Ray. Enjoy.
You were never sure what you were going to get with Mike Leigh ! Didn't his character have trouble with his r's and call her Candice Mawie ? Still laughing at the thought of it, after all these years. Thanks for the memory, Cro.

Excruciating! Poor Ray.
I put this up because I'm sure I saw Roger Sloman on Eastenders (Lady M watches it).
One of Mike Leigh's best. Candice Marie, those two words will always mean nothing but that Play for Today.
I could hear you singing along.

Dreadful people. He captured them perfectly.
He did, didn't he - and it was such compulsive viewing!
I had a hat like Candice Marie's.
My favourite Mike Leigh play Cro ……. kiss Prudence Keith !!!!!! XXXX
He is in Eastenders …… he plays a funeral director !!!! XXXX
I thought I was right. As I walked past I said to Lady M "Isn't that the chap who was in Nuts in May?".
She said she didn't know what I was talking about.
Lady M had the hair... but nicer.
Don't know either of those two but having listened to your clip I can only say I totally agree with Judith above.
And I was pretty sure that Candice is a young Alison Steadman, so I Googled to make sure.
That captured the average 1970s male folk singer's attitude to every one else perfectly.
You know Alison Steadman, surely. I'm quite surprised that you seem not to know the TV play. It's been talked about ever since.
I've met them.
One of my favourites Candice Marie
I wonder what she would do with Sir Reginald?
I wonder if i missed anything living here in the 70s.
Had to laugh at this...if we see a similar couple now, years on from the program, we say 'there goes a Candice Marie'...life needs them, lol.
Scary !
I only watched this quite recently and found it absolutely hilarious!
