Billy-boy-Badger

Bok disappeared on our walk yesterday morning, then later called me over to see what he'd found. Poor Billy Badger wasn't too happy and he growled like a dog; Bok just wanted to play with him.

Also, on our walk, I heard the first Cuckoo of the year, and the first Hoopoe.

I returned to where we'd found the Baby Bill Badger about three hours later; he'd gone home. I quite expect his Mum gave him a good ticking off.

What a cute little guy! I love his little striped face. I'm glad Bok was a good boy and didn't hurt him.

Bok actually barked to bring me over to where he'd found it. I honestly think he was hoping that we could help him. Bok adores all other animals.

The only thing you missed out was the patchwork quilt on the bed. Not so good over here to be a Badger; the locals think of them as vermin, and can't wait to be rid of them all. I have a rather different view of them.

I love badgers... it's a pity we don't get them in NZ but I expect if we did our "Forest and Bird" lot or conservationist lot would want them gone. I have nothing against conservationists as a whole but to try to rid a country of something that they don't think belongs is taking things in my mind a bit too far.

Good job his mum didn't turn up - they can bite through chain-link fences, you know...

That's why I didn't pick him up, and return him to his home myself!

How amazing to see one during the day, they're normally so nocturnal. Hope it was okay.

In the little film he was just being shy and defensive. He must have found his way home (eventually).
