The Willow Ball. 2011.

As you can imagine, I was thrilled when Ms O'Hara accepted my invitation to Tess's Kincaid's annual Willow Manor Ball.

I collected her from Glengarriff yesterday afternoon, and we flew over in her late husband's Sikorsky VS-44A seaplane. The Ohio lake on which we landed was perfectly calm; poor Maureen sighed with relief, she's not a good traveler.

This evening I collected Ms O'Hara from her room (she looked sensational in an Ivory coloured silk dress, and plenty of diamonds), and the car arrived almost at once. I hadn't previously mentioned to Maureen that I would be wearing my full MacLennan tartan evening dress; she was surprisingly complimentary, especially about my antique badger-trimmed sporran.

We should arrive at Willow Manor between 9.30 to 10.00 pm. See you there folks.

I've got something that's beginning to look like an antique badger-trimmed sporran that can be sported at balls too, Cro. No, better not...

I'm breathless to see you both...especially you in your full MacLellan evening tartan. Good on Maureen for not feeling upstaged by her date!

I don't know who I am more thrilled to meet...Miss O'Hara...or you, Cro. I've always found those sporrans to be incredibly sensual...oh! May I have this dance?

I've just been chatting to The Stig. He said he trod on your toes; is that true?

Maureen looks excited to be going to that ball!

Cro you are absolutely stunning in your kilt. You should wear one more often.

Why thank you, Delores. I'm actually a Scottish Laird (on account of some investment land I bought many years ago), but other than that, I don't have an ounce of Scottish blood in my body. Maybe I should acquire some!

Highlight of the evening? When Maureen burst into song to the delight of everyone .. a show stopper! You looked amazing my friend!!!

It isn't easy to outshine Maureen O'Hara, but you nearly do! It isn't often one sees a man wearing a kilt ... and such legs you have, too! I have propped myself at the bar (next to Gable and Nivens) and am enjoying your dance moves!

I must say, those large, beautifully expressive eyes of Maureen's out-sparkle every diamond in this room!

Oh wow - can't wait to see all this

Well as a full-blooded Scot, I feel bad now that I didn't even consider a dash of tartan in my outfit! Och, a glass of whiskey and I'll feel better about it....*ahem*

Cro Magnon I am so sorry to be so late to tell you how much I enjoyed the dance with you ... well except that your sporran kept rubbing against my feathers making my chest quite raw. Then I wandered away and choked upon the walnuts below. Very good indeed.

Whoops ... tis very late and I can no longer see ... sporan indeed.

What a night! I'm exhausted. Thanks so much to everyone who agreed to dance with me (and my swinging sporran), it gave Maureen the opportunity to sit down for a while. Although I've never seen so many men asking her for 'the next dance'.

Of course my greatest thanks must go to Tess. It was difficult to believe that anyone could improve on her last year's ball, but she managed it. Naughty me; I even put a couple of her Scotch eggs into a doggy bag for our flight home!

Thank you Tess!

You are such a delight. Glad we saw you there having a whale of a time. Perhaps a dance for me at next year's ball?
