At the rate he's going, I estimate that he'll have completely consumed it by winter 2014. Is there something one can spray onto carpets that will stop dogs doing this? Alum maybe?

Starving?
At the rate he's going, I estimate that he'll have completely consumed it by winter 2014. Is there something one can spray onto carpets that will stop dogs doing this? Alum maybe?

Oops! Young dogs love to chew things don't they.
Petshops sell special sprays. Alum mixed with water to make a spray is supposed to be a good deterrent, or you could try vinegar. Anything bitter really. Depends on the dog and their individual taste though!
Might be easier to take the rug up until he's finished his chewing phase.
Thanks for that Sue. I'll pop in to Gamme Vert and see what they have. I had a feeling Alum might do the job.
You could always have his teeth removed along with his nuts.
I had a dog like that once...she chewed her way through a habitat rug ,through a habitat basket chair...if the world is populated with dogs like this then that's why habitat went out of business! she was lovely though!
When our cat started chewing on plant leaves the vet suggested sprinkling cayenne pepper on them.
You could try a bit of hot sauce. 'Course, then he's liable to start requesting a margarita to go with his carpet.
at least his turds will be colourful

I've tried doing the spray thing with some of the dogs I've had, but it never worked as they always found the 'bit' that didn't get sprayed. Now I give my pup raw bones, they are a little messy for the first day so I always make her chew them on an old towel, she loves them and has never chewed anything else in the house. Marrow bones are the best, you can keep them in the freezer and give them to the dogs frozen. I feed her a raw food diet so I purchase them from the same place I buy her food, but I'm sure you can probably get some from a butcher, just make sure they are never cooked bones.

I was going to say what Victoria said, we have a pet show on Tv here about problems and one thing they say it that it is boredom and Labs are very active,just fill a box with toys a good raw bone etc and I bet you have no more problems and I would be putting that lovely rug up for a little while until Monty is settled,I would say you will have to loose that top row and hem it whatever else happens,what a shame its a lovely rug...the joys of puppyhood!
Take his teeth out or stay up all night.
I would suggest lots of chew bones too. They should make bones made out of rug fibers, to satisfy that craving.
