I never tire of walking the dogs in my immediate vicinity, but occasionally we take them off to discover hidden parts of the village woodlands, that we have previously overlooked.
The weather has been glorious recently, so yesterday Lady Magnon suggested a particular woodland track that we have only half explored.
Down a tiny overgrown side track we came across these abandoned buildings.
The barn itself (above) had been re-roofed within the past 20 years, and was in very good condition; just look at that arch.
Signs of previous life were everywhere.
Including this old tractor, which almost looked as if one could just turn the key, and it would go;
unlike other abandoned vehicles that were not so roadworthy looking. In all we counted five.
There were plenty of other buildings about (in various states of decay). Access to the property was a bit tricky, but nothing a few Euros and an adventurous spirit couldn't handle.
A nice little restoration project awaiting a 'sympathetic buyer'. I would have had a go, had I been a bit younger!
I wonder if it's for sale?
It's wonderful. I could happily spend several days with a camera in a place like this.
ReplyDeleteI shall go back some time, and take more photos. There were more buildings that were covered in brambles etc, it'd be good to see what's there.
DeleteIt would make a lovely home for someone with the money, time and expertise to do it up.
ReplyDeleteI want to know the story! What happened to the owners? Did they run out of money? or enthusiasm? Was there a divorce? or a bereavement?
ReplyDeletePleeeease return and give us more clues.
Gill
I'll have to ask someone.... there were no clues, just remnants.
DeleteThe place looks ideal. It is always a question of knowing how to earn money to live once there.
ReplyDeleteThe eternal problem!
DeleteAhh yes! that money problem ... !
DeleteWOW Cro …… that is a beauty …..a little gem and, with the right restoration, could be beautiful. Mind you ….. the wrong person could ruin it !!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteYou're right; it could be fabulous.
DeleteGo on - buy it. You need a good project.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm just crying out for something to do!
DeleteIn between meals.
DeleteI love the German Deutz tractor. She would be great for work around your smallholding. How much would you pay for a property like that? It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteAround €80,000 maybe; depends on how much land there is.
DeleteBeautiful old barn. Best finish the one you've got first right??? lol.
ReplyDeleteI fear so.
Deletesuch beauty in decay
ReplyDeleteThe farmer was sat in one of the other buildings aiming a gun at you.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs would have sniffed him out; although they do say 'you are always being watched by someone, in the country'.
DeleteThat is so true ... nothing is missed here in the back of beyond.
DeleteIt looks like the people left suddenly as they left so much behind. Do you know who they were?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful home to take on and return it to its former glory. You might have just posted a real estate listing and sparked some interest. If so, maybe you will get a commission.
Wouldn't that be nice, Arleen!
DeleteEven documenting it photographically in it's present condition would be a gift to the old place and to your readers.
ReplyDeleteNo one asked the important question: Did Bok and Monty enjoy exploring these new digs?
