It used to be that 50 was the age at which you were officially 'old', then it was changed to 60.
Now, I'm pleased to see that the W.H.O. (whose employees presumably have nothing better to do) have revised how we refer to our ages, and have issued the following (rather strange) new classifications.
0-17 Underage
18-65 Youth, or Young people
66-79 Middle aged
80-99 Elderly or Senior
100+ Long-lived Elderly
I've been feeling Middle aged for quite some while, and I'm pleased to see that my feelings were correct. For a while I'd worried that I was just plain 'decrepit'.

That is so funny, is that a joke? 18 to 65 youth? 66 to 79 middle aged? Ha ha! That puts me in the middle aged group.
Well, sixty has been the new forty for some time.
As much as it pains me to trot out a platitude it's true that you are as old as you feel. I am five. No bull, Cro. I am still that little girl, wide eyed, full of awe at the wonders of the world and its inhabitants, enveloped in my long dead grandparents' love; trusting in the good of the world. Appearances as to the latter are very very very slow to filter through and generally rejected by me.
"Decrepit"? I love that word. It's so evocative and full of wrinkles.

Apparently not. At first I thought it must be, but I'm very happy to be middle-aged.
Mentally I'm somewhere between 18 and 25, when everything was new and exciting. It's the age that I look back on the most often.
I always knew I was middle aged and I plan to stay that way for several more years.
A sixty four year old is youth or young? Well, I am not kidding myself.
Elderly or Long-lived Elderly doesn't sound too good. Let's all stay Middle-aged.

Me too. On a totally different subject, we're just off to the funeral of a 3 year old boy. It hardly bears thinking about.
So I'm still young??? Try telling my joints that.
What I hate most about getting older is the different way people treat you. Not all but most. They treat you as though you no longer have a brain and I would say my brain is sharper now than it was whey I was younger.

I seemed to become strangely invisible to most people once I reached 60 so I don't suppose it matters much what I am called if I don't exist!
We're all young.... keep telling ourselves.
I remember quite a while back (when I was still a 'Young Person'), a check-out girl at Waitrose folding my change into my hand in a rather strange way. Had I been 21, I might have thought she was after me, but at the age I was she must have seen me as 'elderly'.
Maybe they really see you as rather exotic and 'exclusive'. They are probably just shy.
Paul and I are still young then. It's a pity our bodies don't know that!
My body is quite a mixture. My brain is about 25, my lower back about 95, my right knee around 77, and my liver is unclassifiable.
If middle age goes to 79, that means some can expect to live to be 158. That certainly will be a boom to the wrinkle cream industry.
The funeral of that three year old bought a jolt to a heart half a world away. How does a parent get past such heartbreak?
I feel quite young except for my right knee which insists on feeling decrepit just to be annoying.

I don't wish to think of myself as elderly but it looks as though I have to.
We all know our own true age and capabilities; I'm certainly in the middle-aged bracket.
Heart-breaking for everyone concerned. I'm just grateful that nothing like that ever happened to us. One never knows what's around the corner.
