Bok's mate Marley.

Marley is one of Bok's newer best buddies. He's a beautiful Alsatian (as you can see), and wanders around our tiny hamlet visiting people and other dogs. He has a really lovely nature, despite his youthful exuberance. He often joins us on our walks.

Of course, not everyone likes visiting dogs, and I imagine his owner will soon be receiving a nasty Email; there's always someone who likes to complain!

Anyway, he's perfectly welcome to come and play here with Bok. He's a very pleasant addition to the area's canine population. He never stays for too long. He just turns up, plays a while, then moves on.

I'd call him the prefect local dog, and a perfect friend for Bok.

This was he and Bok (above) a couple of days ago..

Is that the pecking order on display?

He looks well cared for.

I think Bok finds him a bit over exuberant.

Yes, he's a lovely boy.

Some dogs turn up just for a biscuit, but Marley definitely comes to visit Bok.

We used to have a visitor like that. A big black dog by the name of Lucky. Looked fierce but very gentle. Unfortunately someone in the neighbourhood didn't appreciate his visits. He was poisoned.
I'm sure you're far more civilised over there. He's a beautiful looking animal

Marley will soon learn which places have the welcome mat out.

Many years ago our next-door neighbours' HUGE Alsation used to spend his days with us. He was ferocious looking, but as gentle as a kitten.

I expect he's already written his list.

I think some people are afraid of Alsatians. This probably springs from their so often being guard dogs.

Are dogs allowed to just wander about in rural France? Does he pick his own poo up? He is beautiful.....a proper dog!

Cro Magnon said...

They certainly can look intimidating, but 99% of dogs are pleasant.

I would be terrified if I met Marley roaming around on my morning walk. He does look nice and shiny and BIG.

Cro Magnon said...

Yes, they just wander around. Bok stays at home, but others visit. Dog poo isn't really a problem, but we did have someone who brought his little dog into our garden every day to let it poo on the lawn. Lady Magnon had to explain to him (ahem).

He's a sweetie. He'd only chew your ankle half way through!

What a handsome chap. I'd love to have a dog that visited (not the beast that bit me last week, however!) X

My first Dog (Hamlet) used to bite me. When he'd had enough of playing, he'd bite me just to let me know. Charming.

What is there not to like about a dog? Loyal, loving, no hidden agenda, pleased to see you whether you're happy or sad. Humans have so much to learn from their canine companions... let's face it... dogs domesticated man...

I agree with you 100%.Treat a dog with kindness and he'll return it multi-fold.

Three times I have been attacked by a German Shepherd (dog) so I am very wary of them now.

Beautiful boy! I love knowing Bok has friends who visit.

Stop attaching those beef bones to your shins.

He's a popular boy.

What a lovely photograph ..... I bet Bok misses Monty so it's so lovely that he has visitors to play with. XXXX

Cro Magnon said...

If we mention the name 'Monty' he shows no reaction whatsoever. We wonder what's going on inside his head. He MUST remember him.

Bok looks like he is having fun with the visitor. Dogs do like having another dog around to play doggie games.

Dogs must always be on a leash here; it is the law. When I was a kid, it wasn't unusual to see dogs roam. We both lost and found a beloved pet that way. Our first dog, an Irish Setter, took off and got killed on the railroad tracks (electrocuted), and a few years later a terrier found her way into our yard and stayed.

Most local dogs stay at home, but the farm dogs tend to wander around. They're not like a pack of marauding hounds, they just come to visit from time to time. They're all lovely dogs (for the moment).

Since arriving on your doorstep, and staying, I'm glad Bok shows no inclination to roam. Monty was the pull but now I'm sure it's the two of you, the ones who provided him this wonderful safe haven. (I would take him in a heartbeat.)

He's a lovely dog. I think he really appreciates his life with us. We probably spoil him; but what the hell.

Fine dogs. I love an Alsatian. I wish I were big enough to handle a do so big.

When I was about four years old I packed my bag and headed down the lane towards Bognor. I met the big bad wolf (aka Alsation dog) and ran all the way home.

Very sweet.

Cro Magnon said...

No need to be terrified of Marley; he's very friendly (as are most dogs).

Cro Magnon said...

When they're not trained to be aggressive, they are lovely dogs. Of course I've not tried controlling Marley on a lead, but I can imagine he'd be a handful.

I had a similar experience near my Surrey home. I met a farm dog in a field, and could have outpaced Usain Bolt on the way home.

Cro Magnon said...

They are great pals. Their playing is quite something!

I wish that everyone had dogs like that and I wish everyone cared for their dogs. I've had a bad day with dogs. You may have detected that.
