Mid-build, 9 October 2010. Those roof timbers really were nailed together, after having roughed-out a few 'back of an envelope' designs.
April 2014. The 'tower' is now 3½ years old, and already it's looking reasonably mellow. Later in the year it'll look even better.
Planting has gone quite well (in my opinion). Reflecting on the actual building process itself, it now seems almost unbelievable, or even foolhardy, that two inexperienced old-fogies managed to do what we did (we thought as much at the time).
When Lady Magnon returns from her travels, we shall move in here for the summer. It really is the best bedroom you could possibly imagine. I can hardly wait.

This is its first real flowering year, last year we had about 3 flowers. The Clematis (Montana, I think) is also fantastic.
Clematis and wisteria, inspired choices! They look absolutely gorgeous. The tower looks wonderful, as if it has been there for decades.

What a super idea Cro - and goodness, how fast wisteria grows over there - it takes years to reach that stage up here in the North of England.
On the north facing wall I have a climbing Hydrangea, and a Clematis Nelly Moser. The Hydrangea is romping; the Clematis died down to nothing and is now regrowing.
I'll come over and give an (elderly) hand.

It's just lovely Cro...you SHOULD be proud of it. I can just imagine sleeping there with the night breezes bringing in the scent of the flowers and the fields.

Just the old barn wood would be enough; keep the corrugated iron for something else.
