Chaos in Madrid

I'm sure the Spanish riots are far more complicated than my simple assessment, but I believe this to be the basis of their troubles.

It is well known that the Catalan area of Spain wishes to become independent.

The weak Spanish ruling Socialist Party needs the support of various separatist-friendly parties in order to have any clout, and, if I understand correctly, they have made some form of coalition deal with them.

The far right are totally against any idea of Catalan independence, and below is their response outside the Socialist Party HQ in Madrid. This was their fourth night of rioting.

Proof, I suppose, that people are angry just about everywhere.

  1. The purpose behind the deal stinks. The rioters are correct. The EU is objecting also to such a deal being possible to secure power for the Socialist Party. The EU does not normally get involved in individual state parliamentary affairs.

    1. I didn't know that the EU were involved, but I suppose they have to be.

    2. They are 'involved' only in so far as I described.

    1. It's hardly been mentioned here, which is why I thought people needed to know.

  3. At least they were courteous enough to wait until we had returned home from our brief stay in Madrid.

  4. I hadn't heard this either but that's probably because i avoid the news a bit at the moment as it's all so depressing. It always makes me laugh when I hear people putting this country down and want to move to another country but they are not going to find it any better elsewhere as it's pretty much the same or worse everywhere

  5. I don't know how this news passed me by. I guess I have been focused on Gaza, The Ukraine, Fiona the Lonely Sheep and the pronouncements of Sue-Ellen.

    1. That's why I thought I would highlight it. There's so much going on in the world that we seldom hear about.
